What does Krug mean for Seattle

Description
Love this signing! couldn't be happier. As for seattle, I still think we will need to go 7F 3D 1G. Faulk might be getting exposed in the seattle expansion draft, but we should be fine as I doubt Seattle takes that contract. We shouldn't have to protect schwartz as he will be a UFA, and can extend him after.

My proposition is

tarasenko
O'Reilly
Schenn
Thomas
Kyrou
Perron
Sanford

Krug
Payako
Dunn

Binnington

overall I think we will still lose a forward like Blais. If Faulk has a really good year they might go 4F 4D 1G and just pray they don't take kyrou or Perron but I'd rather risk them taking on Faulk. Thoughts???

You hope they take faulk and I'd rather protect sundqvist instead of sanford

it would create a big hole in the roster but I guess we would have the cap space to find a replacement

I'm really high on Sanford, he had an amazing second half of the season. Then again, a lot will depend on this upcoming season

I just think sanford is replacable in the top 6 and sundqvist isn't in the bottom 6. That and idk how long sanford has in the top 6 with ROR perron kyrou thomas schenn schwartz and tank when he gets back

after how good Perron has been I think it would be insane to let him leave in expansion again.

Thats why a Dunn/Bozak package makes sense to me, then go sign Stecher to replace Faulk (and pray Seattle takes him). Also, they just signed Santini, not sure if will become a bottom pairing RD in the future or not

Sanford massively overperformed his expected goals this season, and remember four of his goals came in a game that we still lost. His "really good" second half the of the year was bolstered by a shooting percentage of 22.8% (!) that will definitely definitely not continue. Honestly I might sell high right now on Sanford if there wasn't a glaring hole on our left wing. But I think the notion that he's a top six player is, at best, a projection rather than an assurance.

As for Perron, most of Perron's points came on the power play and in overtime. At even strength he didn't do much. If Tarasenko is healthy and Kyrou has a good year Perron should be exposed. Seattle is very analytically minded and probably wouldn't take him anyway- he's old and only will have one year left. They'll take Sanford, Blais, or Sundqvist. Can't see them going for Faulk unless Ron Francis doesn't listen to any of the people he hired and sticks with the players he "knows".

Selling Dunn now would be a massive mistake I think. He's going to cost maybe 3 million against the cap, and will be pushing for a bigger role, and has the best underlying numbers of all our remaining defensemen. I'm not comfortable with any top four that includes both Faulk and Scandella. With the lack of pure goal scorers up front, that's not getting us anywhere. One might be fine, not both. You protect Dunn, Parayko, and Krug and look to replace Faulk next season after the expansion draft and hopefully after a bounce back year. I think there are teams (not Seattle) that will take Faulk, but he needs to be better than he was this year and have less term.

I can see a future where we trade Dunn (still think it would be a mistake) because Perunovich is coming up but I think he'll have next season in the AHL and again he'll be on an ELC so what's the rush to ship Dunn out?
