How did Schmidt for a third not come up in trade talks for Stastny?

Not entirely true but all too often the case. This is why the Jets need to continue to promote from within. Draft and develop only works if once developed you make room for the players.

They also need to do a better job of keeping their drafted and developed players happy, lots of unhappy players in Winnipeg and it seems to be more about usage/opportunity then anything else.

Thompson and Tinonato should be in on 4th line with Lowry. Appleton scratched and Perreault traded.

The defense still needs some work

The Jets MO would appear to be to fill fourth line and third pairing roles with veterans before giving the prospects a chance. #playingwithfire

My guess is at the time they probably wanted to keep him and move MAF and maybe Martinez, but obviously nobody was paying for MAF so they went with option 2
