Don’t mind the Jensen trade. Beagle money isn’t really the concern. It’s more Eriksson.

Trading JV to get rid of Beagle sinks any chance of secondary scoring on this team. If your going to do that might as while substitute Eriksson in for beagle and include a draft pick with JV.

Frees up $6m this year and next. Sign a scoring FA.

Would love to substitute Eriksson for Beagle, however I think we would have to give up more than just JV to do it. Wasn't excited about that. With Ferland back, and Gaudette one year more mature, I'm confident in our secondary scoring.

As a Caps fan, I think a 3rd and a 4th for Jensen is a decent return this offseason if they want to move him. If the cap went up and there weren't a pandemic, he's worth a 1st, but this summer, yeah, a couple mid-rounders might be what they get. They'd probably want to have a couple of good UFA's lined up on 1 year deals with that cap space, first, though. With Stecher off the market, it'll be tough to upgrade at RHD, but maybe they can still get a decent RD and an okay forward, so they could consider a low trade offer like that.

I actually really like Jensen for this team - I wish it were a 2 year deal, but I think he would be a great addition to that 3rd pair.

There are some options from BUF too - Miller, McCabe, Montour - but they may have too high of AAV. Kulak in MTL is another option. And then FAs like Rutta, Koekkoek, Bowey, and even Hamonic if he signs for <$3m. Ian Cole may be an option from COL if then want to shed some salary/bodies after bringing in Toews and resigning Graves - I bet they'd be open to retention too since it's a 1-year deal. Or maybe a guy like Riikola from PIT.

There are still a lot of options out there in FA and via trade that could help solidify VAN's defense -- I wonder which direction Benning is going to go...

I agree on some of those, but the cap hit would likely be too high on the better players. Jensen is a solid D-man at $2.5M AAV.

Detroit declines.

No they don't. They get a big scoring forward who can skate like the wind, but just needs a change of scenery to potentially go 20+ goals a year, and an aging shut down guy who gives you $6M of cap hit over two years for $2.2M of actual cash while Detroit SUCKS BADLY and the ownership doesn't want to hemmorage money while the team is turning around. All this for a high 40s/low 50s 2nd round pick (because it's Edmonton's, not Detroit's), and a 4th that's well into the 100s as it's VGK's.

I don't know why, but my brain processed that as Vatanen(who isn't even on Vancouver), not Virtanen. Decline withdrawn.

Ha! You could go sign Vatanen on your own...he's still available.

Yzerman at his press interview yesterday said he was done adding guys for the most part and really only looking at cap dumps. Given that Yzerman has traded guys with character issues (ADA, Drouin, AA) then Virtanen isn’t Yzerman’s cup of tea. In addition to that we already have a full roster and if we’re trading picks then we’d want someone much better since Schmidt for a third, Toews for two seconds, etc. We have no problem selling cap space but you would be paying for it not the other way around.

Ok, how about Beagle, Eriksson and Roussel for a 2021 1st & 2nd rounder, plus a 2022 1st rounder?

Value wise is probably good but the problem is creating those three roster spots on our end. I think Steve is looking at getting one big short term dump like Eriksson so he doesn’t have to move out multiple guys to facilitate the trade. I did a ACGM last night for Detroit and it was already difficult trying to include all of the guys we’ve signed so adding 3 would require additional moves.

Love that you guys are willing to give up two 1st rounders and a 2nd rounder for our high end veterans!! We'll retain a few million to assist with the cap hit if that helps...because we're nice guys...

Until his next injury. His availability on the ice is always in doubt
