If they trade him they won't take cap back. But 3rd or 4th should do it.

I included Sutter with retention because I thought he filled a need for a 3C. He's also on an expiring contract.

The only reason to trade Holl is to get rid of cap. Taking more cap back isn't the trade....

Leafs are not trading Holl, leaf fans are...

The only trade I see working would be Holl for rafferty. Something along those lines.

If Leafs trade Holl it would be either straight up for a pick, so that no cap comes back or a young prospect. Or if he is included in a larger package for a dman upgrade and the dollars in versus out remain the same.

The fact that all Van had to pay for Schmidt was a 3rd, I can't see Holl having much value right now.

What Vegas got back was the 6 mil in cap space they needed. Schmidt isnt a cap dump but it was a cap dump trade for Vegas. It shouldn't be taken as some kind of marker for the current value of defensemen.
