Galch barely even deserves the Thornton contract, let alone over 4mil for 2 years

Id argue this roster isnt much better than what you had before..

Gally > Hyman
Marincin < Holl
Agostino < Engvall

Barabanov didnt sign with the Leafs to play in the AHL.. if he doesnt get a spot, he goes back overseas 100% (id say the same with Lehtonen too)

Haha what? Galchenyuk isnt 1/8th the player hyman is

You see the reason I have Agostino/Marincin in the lineup is for expansion draft requirements as I said on the last thread. You don't want to lose Holl or Engvall for nothing right? Why not sell high and get value on what are essentially role players. The cost acquisition was next to nothing on those guys why not cash in.

If Barby/Lehtonen walk they walk no biggie. I feel like there will be a taxi squad scenario next year and instead of playing in the minors they could travel with the team and get into some games here and there to prove they deserve a roster spot. Depending on how it goes you could discuss a trade or extension.

PS That's a dope username my dude lol

He's an offensive minded player who generates next to no offense, while being questionable at best and a liability at worst in the defensive zone. He's shown time and again, he is not capable of justifying a top six role on a team, and simply doesn't bring the combination secondary scoring and defensive responsibility teams generally look for in bottom six roles.

I'm sure someone will take one last flyer on him, but there's no chance he's getting much more than league min in this free agent market, and he certainly has not earned any term with his play. There's honestly a good chance he's looking at a PTO before he's getting an actual contract.

Last 2 years, keeping in mind Hyman is a 2 way forward, not really known for his offence.

Hyman 122gp 42g 36a 78pts +29 88PIM 3PP 18:02TOI 154hits 62blks 62 tkwys 44gvwys

Chucky 131gp 27g 38a 65pts -24 50PIM 11PP 14:11TOI 114hits 51blks 33tkwys 60gvwys

So judginng by this - Hyman is a way better 5v5 scorer, less of a playmaker, way more physical (will stand up for teammates), relied upon more, way better defensively.

Other things we know - he's one of the Leafs key PK players, easily the Leafs best forechecker, and likely the first fwd over the boards to protect a 1 goal lead. These elements are all pretty crucial to this Leafs team considering the current makeup.

They don't need another offence first top 6 fwd that does his best work on the PP, and is an adventure in his own end. And they really would have no need to pay that player major $$ coming off a couple of down seasons.

Also, in response to an earlier point of yours. It's ridiculous to weaken the current roster and move useful players like Engvall and Holl just to avoid losing someone in the expansion draft. Leafs will lose a decent player to Seattle, who cares. Getting a 4th (like 20% chance of this player playing 200 NHL games) for Holl instead of losing him for nothing is no reason to make the team weaker.

So in order to make your expansion draft better, you are choosing for the Leafs to play a weaker roster.... i think youre missing the mark here.

You cleary dont watch enough hockey.
Hyman had 12 empty net goals last season.. he doesnt provide 1/10 the offensive threat Gally does. Both are equally tough and gitty. Hymans ceiling much lower.

The numbers speak for themselves:
https://hockeyviz.com/player/gallabr92/MTL/1920
https://hockeyviz.com/player/hymanza92/TOR/1920

Gally provides more offensive chances AND is lightyears better than Hyman in his own end, look for yourself

This thread is about Galchenyuk - not Gallagher.

Well the price given to Galchenyuk by the OP is way closer to Gally ballpark than what Galchenyuk will end up getting, so I could see the confusion.
