Pretty common understanding here that there was a deal in place to have in reinstated after he was moved to Calgary if he waives at expansion time.

Regardless Backlund should be exposed. 5.35 is a big contract to take on for four years and he likely wouldn't be selected. If he is selected then there is nearly 5.5 in cap space to go out and sign a young C.

It is widely believed there is a handshake agreement between the Flames and Lucic for him to waive. It was either the day of the trade, or day after Treliving was asked about expansion and he said he had no concerned and said he would not comment on negotiations with players.

I mean they arent going to take him if hes exposed. I vould definitely see Backlund left open though. Considering the few top 6 caliber centers that will be available for them next year I think he would be a wise selection for the Kraken

I get that, and I can't disagree, but I think you have to judge things on a case by case basis and in this particular case Lucic has a reputation for being a stand up guy.

Not really. No one calls Andersson Andy, it's Phat Ras or just Ras. I've never seen anyone shorten Hanifin before. Lindholm is usually something around his middle name Zebulon. and then he didn't even use Mangi or Bread for Mangiapane.

I agree about Ras that is the more common nickname, and all the players refer to Hanifin as Hani so that ones quite common. Zebulon is used but Lindy is used more because of the Johhny, Monny, Lindy line. He didnt use a nickname for Mango in the above description so arguing that one makes no sense

Oh, I agree with both of you: the best plan is to get Lucic to waive (because he's effectively immune) and then expose Backlund and Giordano (which takes a little nerve). That protects Dube and Mangiapane but exposes Kylington, who might be more appealing to Seattle than Backlund. It will be interesting to see how this plays out,

Unless they can strike Gold in the UFA centers (Stastny, RNH, Danault) then Tyler Johnson is likely the best other available center at expansion. If Backlund is available you take him and think about any issues later
