Who is their 2 C

Created by: BCAPP
Team: 2020-21 Florida Panthers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 23, 2020
Published: Oct. 23, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Wennberg has proven over the last few years he is not a 2C, he is young enough to bounce back, but presumably they are not depending on that.

  1. Strome, Ryan [RFA Rights]
NYR
  1. Weegar, MacKenzie [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
To be honest I'm not really clear why Florida seems unwilling to pay Weegar the 3-4 million he apparently wants. But for whatever reason they don't.

This is a trade of two moderately valuable pieces who both organizations seem to not really want to keep/resign and both at least somewhat an area of need for the opposite team (LD for NYR and C for Fla)

Its not that they literally don't want him, but both Florida and NYR with each player, kind of seem like they'd be happy to replace them

This is a very reasonable idea. Nice vision.

Weegar>Strome

I feel like Strome (like many players before him), is underrated at this point, because he's being compared against what he could have been/looked like he may have been as a prospect.

If you just judge him on his last 2-3 years, he looks like a 2nd C developing. Some people can't get out of their own shadows.

I think we should take a stab at signing Granlund, we have the cap space.

Not sure two years ago on stats but last year he had a very good line mate boosting his stats. In Florida he won’t have that and he’d probably be just a hair better than wennberg on a point perceptive. I think weegar has more value than strome.

The rangers would then have one too many non exempt D to protect (Trouba, Lindgren, DeAngelo, and MW). They are not trading for D help after re-signing ADA until after the expansion draft. Why trade an asset for another that will be plucked by Seattle for nothing.

This is a good value but to me it seems like Panthers want to move Weegar for no cap back.

It's no secret they are trying to reduce payroll.

Is Lindgren worth protecting?

Sorry I don't see the connection. I'm probably missing something obvious, can you clarify?

Lindgren is the new Girardi of late 2000s-2010s - the blue collar worker on our D for the next 8-10 years. He is currently our best LHD on the roster. If exposed he will 100% be taken by Seattle. We are not exposing him. He and Fox were our best pair last season.

Ryan Graves was drafted by the Rangers and they traded him for nothing before ever giving him a chance. He turns into this absolute beast of a stay at home defenseman that now lead the league in +/-.

Lindgren is a similar kind of player that has excellent chemistry with Fox. This year the duo was drawing an unfair comparison to being the long awaited future Leetch/Beuk pair.

Thanks for the clarification. As a Leafs fan that was Anton Stralman for us
