I can't see Detroit giving up a 3rd and Cholowski for Gostisbehere. Especially when they have already added 4 defensemen so far this off season and have a couple prospects almost ready to make the jump.

The Ghost trade is a no go. Rubtsov is a bust and Ghost is a cap dump, so why are we giving up a decent 4th line center, a defensman who is has played in the NHL but compares with Rubtsov and a pick?

If Detroit was trying to win now I could see them making the deal but Ghost doesn't fit within the rebuild right now,

I feel like the Florida trade proposal could become another O'Reilly situation, I don't know if I would be comfortable taking that.

That’s a much better package than what Buffalo got for O’Reilly though. If it came to Florida selling or re-tooling, that is exactly the type of package they would want for Ekblad.

Wings pass, ghost has been a healthy scratch and terrible since this knee surgery. For us to take that salary philly has to kick in a big piece as a cap dump and will be getting nothing but futures back

I'm was/am open to adjusting the Red Wings trade. It was more the point of the trade I wanted to convey. It has 3 guys who need a fresh start. Cholowski, Rubtsov, and Ghost. I felt Ghost had the most upside to offer seeing we've seen him be a solid player before, maybe I didn't take in the contract as much into account because the Red Wings could afford to add it, and if Ghost returns to form he will help drive their offense and PP. But regardless I like the idea of a trade involving a bunch of guys who need a fresh start.

I don't think calling Rubtsov a bust is entirely fair. Rubtsov needs to get healthy and can probably stick at least as a bottom 6 guy. Cholowski is actually more concerning because he has gotten his chances to contribute and has been healthy scratched and the Red Wings don't seem to believe in him much anymore. All these guys are change of scenery guys, and I feel like Rubtsov is the safest to stick on a roster at this point, because his style of play at least makes him a bottom 6. Ghost is the riskiest part of the deal only because of his contract, but also we've seen him succeed before so he's the highest upside because he can do it. Cholowski doesn't have a safe floor, but also hasn't succeeded enough to warrant benefit of the doubt. I actually think the Red Wings win this deal, because at worst you get a guy for your bottom 6 and a chance at PP QB and goal scoring defenseman. At worst Ghost doesn't return to form and you leave Ghost unprotected next year and there may be a solid chance is snagged up by Seattle, but the Red Wings have no use for Cholowski anymore, they seem like they've pretty much given up on him.

I wouldn't make the deal if I was the Flyers, the only reason I did was because they need Ghost to leave in order to get cap space, but the Red Wings don't have that issue so I feel they were a good match to do a change of scenery trade. But I do understand the viewpoint of not accepting based on Ghost contract even though I think the upside of this trade favors Detroit.

Regardless of the guys who need a fresh change, the ghost part will cost quite a bit to dump that Contract to me. The guys who need a change cholo has more value then rub, so it's a no go there either. I'd trade cholo and lgd for ghost + farabee + 2nd in 2021. It's the price to take ghost really

WHAT... there isn't a GM on the planet who would give up Farabee just to get rid of Ghosts contract. Thats absurd! That would even be an overpay to get rid of Erickson contract for Vancouver then you also add in a 2nd. Farabee is too good of a prospect for that. Wow. I awknowledge maybe the contract is a bigger deterrent than I made it, but now you've completely lost me if you think thats the price.

Well unless someone is willing to take his contract it's going to cost a lot to dump 3 years at 4.5. I'm talking as just a cap dump. 1 year at 5 is getting a 2nd, so this is essentially 2 more years, maybe not farabee but you're looking at multiple picks/prospects then, 1 for each year
