If I’m the Rangers I kick the tires on duclair and possibly gamble a little and possibly spend a little more and a little more term than the rest of the league, and stack up the wings for something best in the league and be a center and lhd away from cup contender.

My guess is Duclair comes in little above league minimum.

Save 900,000 but lose 900,000 against the cap next year. I'm paying the 900,000 to ensure future cap space in a year with large extensions every day. Burying him is 100% better asset management if he's not a capable backup after his surgery.
