Wilson Fired before the 2020-21 TDL

Created by: yikes
Team: 2020-21 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 10, 2020
Published: Nov. 10, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just a example of a situation where Wilson is fired before TDL (lets say 20 games before TDL and the sharks are abysmal).
Blow her up.

1.
SJS
  1. DeKeyser, Danny
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (EDM)
  3. 2021 2nd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Example - this is literally just a random team I selected. Let’s say Detroit’s playing well (not dead last), and they wanna see if they can win some more games.
DET
  1. Burns, Brent
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
Let’s say defensively Burns is playing slightly better than last year and on pace for like 55-60 points in 82 games. Reasonable assumptions.
2.
SJS
Two seconds - moved of salary - 3 extra years on burns’ contract compared to dekeyser and a third coming back doesn’t seem like a bad trade. Not great for the sharks imo but I also believe it’s not great for Detroit so I guess it’s close to reasonable.
    DET

    SJS
    DET
I know dekeyser could be a IR situation if he gets injured again/ aggravates his disc injury but for now he’s off the books completely and they have a useable player in burns seeing top4 time easily.
      4.
      SJS
      1. Patrick, Nolan
      2. van Riemsdyk, James
      3. 2021 1st round pick (PHI)
      Additional Details:
Patrick + a first - JVR for balance. Patrick plus a first seems like something the flyers may not entertain but this puts them in a position where they’d be an easy favourite to come out of the east with a playoff performer like couture.
Nolan is as much as a reclamation project as any as the sharks could be getting a guy who either plays well or doesn’t even play potentially due to chronic injuries.

THE ABOVE 2 TRADES ARE DONE AT TDL

DET = Actually around or above .500 due to Greiss playing well and Detroit’s good offseason (not a playoff team but could make a wildcard push, unlikely tho)

PHI = Competing for 1st seed in the metro and the first likely to be a late 20 or final 4 selection.

Situations/ trades are unlikely (both couture and burns have a say in trades and would likely decline both/ couture may accept, burns less likely).

He tried to keep that group together and he failed miserably. Having to give up their heart and soul in Joe Pavelski and a solid depth player in Joonas Donskoi for a huge liability in Karlsson.

Detroit passes with where they are at in their rebuild they won't being buying at the TDL for a few more seasons. I don't think Detroit trade DeKeyser he doesn't put up a lot points but he is a very good defensive defenseman. One thing even people who don't follow the Wing's can see is Yzerman is hoarding draft picks and I don't see him trading 2 2nds for a 35yr old defenseman who comes with a cap hit of $8M until he is 40. DeKeyser has been skating and intends on being on the opening night roster now how well he plays is a different situation. The last NHL game he played was on 10/22/2019 and had back surgery during that time. I know it said could be any team but after reading the very thorough explanations I wanted to reply from Detroit's POV.

Wow, all that written for one post. It really should have stopped with Burns virtual MMC (three team trade list), not waiving for the Wings.

I think if those things are true about PHI fighting for 1st in the Metro at the deadline, I cant see them moving two forwards who had gotten them there, especially Patrick.

However if Patrick isn't playing and hasn't helped team to compete for 1st in Metro, (which means he hasn't overcome migraine disorder after 2 years of not playing, then his future is nil) then I could see PHI doing this, but why would SJ?

The assumption is phi is in the position to win; and Patrick is playing (well I guess idk), but he didn’t play at all in 2019/2020. And it’s not like he’s lighting it up just continuing good play. It wouldn’t be a great move for the sharks but it’s also a suspect move for PHI as if Patrick gets his health around he could become a very reliable and good forward by 24/25 if he can keep good health up and actually develop the way he was supposed to. And for Philly they choose to not risk that and get value out of Patrick and a first for couture with JVR being decent but slightly overpaid whereas couture comes in at comfortable 8 and even if he puts up 65 points in 82 games, he’ll provide more than his worth in the playoffs.

I just picked random teams so it’s not like everything is dead on. I also wouldn’t pick frost, farabee, and forester so I just choose Patrick who’s more of a toss up in value

Oh I don't disagree, but if Patrick is playing and playing well, they don't move him. If Patrick isn't playing due to his current medical reasons or playing poorly throughout season towards the deadline, then I doubt SJ wants him.

And that contract at 31 years old, ooof! JVR might not be worth 7mil, but at least its only 3 yrs, and it'll expire when JVR is 34. Couture? Wowza! Just cant see Philly taking a huge, long term contract. 7 more years at 8 mil? Never happen.

Philly will trade for someone who is a UFA to be is more likely
