Hard to evaluate the value on this trade. I think both would decline. OTT likely bets on a White bounceback, PIT wont want to expire another first or have that brutal a bottom 6.

I think I improved our Bottom 6 with Kappy and Poulin..lol. I’m a big McCann fan also. Only 25 years old, good scorer, good defense, good size. But we need help
On the RW IMO. And no matter what this site says, Poulin is a LW. Doesn’t play RW, never has. Maybe a bit of the ride side RW on the PP, but he’s definitely a left winger.

And our 4th line is the same..lol. Tanev/Blueger/ZAR(when he comes back from off-season shoulder surgery). All 3 received Selke votes last year. Our Shut down defensive line, played against the opponents top line mainly last year.

I think 3 line RW is our biggest hole.

I’m excited to see what Jankowski does with the Pens and as our 3rd line Center. Most Pens fans are sleeping on him, IMO. Both JR and Sully are happy opening the season with him being our 3rd line Center too.

Janko is 26, 1st round pedigree, proven good two-way center and top PK player. He had 17 goals and 25 points his 1st year and 14 goals and 32 points his 2nd. Yes, last year he sh*t the bed. But it’s an easy year to write off IMO(for everyone..lol) and look at Sam Bennet’s stats. And look at last year compared to his first 3 or 4. It wasn’t just him. It was the whole Calgary team. Imagine if last year, he improved or just stayed the same statistically. He would’ve been a sought after free agent. The narrative would be completely different. A recent 1st round pick, coming off his E-L contract and 1st team, has had 3 decent years, ready for his 4th year and break-out year. Now, it’s a “show me” contract. Show-me last year wasn’t a fluke and you can get back to producing like your 1st two years. And maybe Calgary just missed used him. It’s only his 4th year and 2nd team.

Who Do u want to play 3rd Line RW?? E.Rodrigues?? C.Sceviour??

Ottawa should keep collecting as many pick as they can IMO. B.Tkachuk/Stutzle/Chabot/J.Norris is a really good strart.

Pass. McCann for white is pretty lateral. Plus a first?

I think Colin White has more Potential. Had the 41 point season his 1st full season. The year B4 last. Alittle younger. I’m a big McCann fan though also. I just think RW is desperately needed for us. Especially with Poulin, who I think will be an all-star player. And he’s not a RW, I don’t care what this site says..lol(I already ranted about that earlier in this thread).

And Zub is a “supposedly” a shut-down” RHD with some scoring touch from Russia. The best defender from Russia coming over this year. Again, “supposedly”!! Not that easy of a transition. I thought alittle more youth in C.White, and the more potential, IMO, and Zub was worth a late 1st. Since Kappy went for a 15th overall and a “C+”, “B-“ prospect.

I do like white, and wish we got him for Murray. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen

I said from the top Murray wasn’t gonna get a 1st. I said a 2nd round pick and a prospect. But I was saying a “B”, “B+” prospect like A.Formenton or Batherson or Shane Pinto. I was hoping Batherson(a RW) Or Pinto and That 2nd round pick. But we ending up getting a “C”, C-“ prospect in Gruden. Blah.

We traded Murray at the worst time. No leverage. Everyone knew were gonna lose one in the expansion draft and couldn’t keep both. And couldn’t re-sign Jarry and keep Murray both too. And all
The FA goalies on the market this year, and the flat-cap. No owners wanted to spend money. It was bad timing all around.

Well this guy is playing him on the 1st line right wing. I think he is a 3C.

rutherford was between a rock and a hard place. no one expected this covid debacle and flat cap world. I think if there was an increase in cap, he would've kept both goalies, similar to 2017, in an attempt to make another run

Really?? Just like 3C is the Pens biggest hole? Just like this made our Bottom 6 worst, even though our 4th line is exactly the same as last year, with 3 Selke vote getters on it. And in this scenario our 3rd line Center stays the same and move our top prospect to LW and our first line RW down to 3rd line RW. But it makes our bottom 6 worse?
Again, you sure about the 3rd line Center. I’m pretty sure most Centers move to wing and play wing fairly often. And being a right-handed shot, I don’t know, maybe he would be a RW?? Have a look at some depth charts. See what they say.

Yep, I liked having both Murray and Jarry. I wasn’t too sure how much Murray likes being a 1B though. And the expansion draft timing killed our leverage.

Trades
PIT
White, Colin
Zub, Artem
OTT
McCann, Jared
2022 1st round pick (PIT)

Without getting too deep into the player analysis, this seems like a pretty fair trade for value. The problem is it's unnecessary. Ottawa is coming out of their rebuild, and aren't looking for picks anymore. Yes they would take a pick, they just aren't looking to acquire them like the last two seasons. Ottawa just signed Zub this season, and he joins fellow Russians Anisimov, Abramov, Zaitsev, and now Dadonov on the team.

The primary pieces, Colin White is 23, McCann is 24, not a huge difference, and they're both 1st round picks, similar range, albeit 2015 was a deeper draft. McCann has 316 NHL games (rushed) @ 0.40 PPG, White has 156 NHL games @ 0.45 PPG after his sophomore slump.

McCann's best season so far is 14-21-35 in 66 games, 0.53 PPG
Whites best season so far is 14-27-41 in 71 games, 0.58 PPG

McCann is good defensively, Whites calling card is defence.

McCann is a left shot, White is a right shot, which is more rare. Using the NHL.com stats for the 19/20 season, filtered to centres, all franchises, left shot (195) right shot (101)

Basically they are very similar players, doing the same job, at near the same effectiveness, with the biggest difference their handedness.

Current Ottawa centres and their handedness
R White
L Tierney
L Anisimov
L Paul
L Galchenyuk

Prospects
L Stuetzle
L Norris
L Brown, Logan
L Chlapik
L Greig
R Pinto

Ottawa needs White more than they need McCann.

I’ll agree with everything but McCann best year. McCann’s best year is 19 goals and 35 points. That’s better than 14 and 35. He has had 2 seasons of 35 points in back to back years. Both previously mentioned seasons!!

And yes, thanks for the RH shot info. No need tell me though!! I try and educated people on here about RH shots and how important they are in hockey. It’s the big reason why I would want the trade. For Wilson RH shot and his ability to the RW much better being a RH shot. And we need another RH shot on our 2nd PP.

Yes, McCann was rushed and misused too. It’s his 5th year in the NHL. He has played in the NHL since he was 19. He gets keeps shuffled around from 3rd line Center to top 6 winger. To bottom 6 winger. To 2nd line Center. It’s not good for most players. Players, especially young ones, need consistency, and a routine. And to be able to play in and out of a slump. And not all players can be that “utility” type player like in baseball. It takes a certain players to be able to move around like that. Only certain guys are good at it. We found out It’s not McCann strong suit.lol. He’s gonna play this year just as the Pens LW. Really good shot and good scorer. Just concentrating on putting the puck in the net on offensive and not being a playmaker for both his other line mates. We’ll see what he does this year. My guess is definitely 20 plus goals.

I think C.Wilson being 1 year younger and probably alittle bit of a higher ceiling and A.Zub was worth the 1st round pick. Yes, I agree. 100% this trade isn’t gonna happen. I’d bet whatever u want on it too.lol. But I’m interested to see what Zub does in the NHL and would rather him as the pens 3rd pairing RHD than Ceci, it’s why I included him in the deal. I thought it was fair value though too. Not a crazy offer for either team. But yes, like You said, the necessity isn’t their at all for the Sens.
