Description

Way too many Bruins ACGM threads have Boston giving up expansion draft protected assets to acquire another D-man (i.e. DeBrusk, Vaakanainen, and a 1st for Ekholm). The Bruins are not going to do that because they're protecting Carlo, McAvoy, and Grzelcyk from Seattle. If they give up too many assets for another d-man (which I think they would if not for the expansion draft), it would a terrible long-term decision. You could make the argument that if the B's acquire another d-man, they could protect 4 D and 4 forwards (Marchand, Bergeron, Pastrnak, Coyle), but I don't think they'd feel comfortable leaving Smith, Kase, and DeBrusk exposed. Lastly, Sweeney has invested too much draft capital into the young LHDs in the organization (1st for Zboril and Vaak, 2nd for Lauzon) and needs to give them a chance in the lineup. They might bring Chara back for another year, but if they don't there is enough depth and cap space to piece together a top-6 for the bulk of the regular season and/or make a trade prior to the deadline for a rental.

oh my god, how dare you suggest that they bring up labeled busts in zboril and vaak to play on the nhl roster! This team needs more DMEN! you need to give away your best players like carlo and rask to get back lesser players like grubauer and timmins but theyll throw us a late first so hey thats gotta be solid value!

Most likely the case, I think they are gonna give some young guys a chance and try to find a rental if they fall short. Next year seems to be a minor reset year for them, so they can address long term LHD then, whether it be in house or via trade/FA.

I agree. There probably isn't much they can do except sign debrusk and take a flyer on some UFA for a year at a low price. But why haven't they done that yet? and we do have a good amount of space to play with next year due to a few key players coming off the books. This seems like the best year to take a shot at the cup with a very low risk of screwing yourself in the long term.
