Sorry, you did not fix anything. Wings not taking on Johnson without a major sweetener. A 2nd and a 3rd will not cut it. Make it a 1st and then some and maybe,

They took Marc staal for a 2nd and TJ is a much better player than staal. His contract is also longer sure, but asking for a FIRST attached to TJ, who would still be one of your best forwards, is not happening.

This offer is very fair for Detroit

Exactly I mean sure Johnson's contract is not really good but he still scored 17 goals last season even with a limited time of play on a let's say pretty stacked team ...

I’m sure teams are thrilled to be taking on a forward whose been trending down and on the wrong side of 30 in a flat cap world. I’m not buying the “29 goals” argument when he shot 34% higher and has a longer track record of ~20 goals.

It doesn’t matter if you “buy it”. It matters if other teams do. Yzerman signed TJ to that deal. Only thing stopping a reunion is his NTC

In a vacuum I agree. BUUUUUUT if that's all Tampa is offering then rival GMs are gonna go "actually we will pass on that bad contract, let me know when you start shipping Cirelli and Sergachev". Tampa is gonna have to overpay to shed TJ if they wanna keep the RFAs

Obviously this is a “fantasy” site. No one here actually makes FO decisions....

The only thing stopping him coming to Detroit is what is attached him hence no one claimed him off waivers. Yzerman has also preached cap flexibility which this isn’t nor do we know if Detroit is operating on an internal budget.

I mean yzerman didn’t claim him on waivers because teams know they’re gonna have to pay something to move him, but I don’t think it’s gonna be a first round pick+. That just sounds excessive. We will see what happens within the next few months cause Tampa needs to move some players to keep their RFAS

While I disagree, I do not think it is his NTC that is stopping any trade but the contract itself. Four years and 5 million for a 30 year old who has slowed over that last 2 years. You say 17 goals for a a 3rd liner who makes 5 million in this era is a little excessive. On top of that Tampa needs to shed cap, why would they not hold out for a 1st. Wings do not have to take him on the roster, they have cap over the cap floor, have a 23 man roster and Stevie ate rebuilding not chasing a cup. The notion that we have to take him on is just not realistic even on a this site.

Finally your comment that Yzerman signed him he wants is laughable. Just because a GM signed a player years ago and the GM has moved on to another job he has to take a player on makes zero sense. Rutherford signed JJ and let him go because he did not fit with the team, again the situation is different in Detroit than in Tampa at the time of the signing. I believe it is a flawed arguement.

Dude you're kidding right? Tyler Johnson easily passed through waivers without a nibble, If a 2nd and 3rd round pick was fair Johnson would've already been traded long before now. There's absolutely noway anyone is taking on that contact without a 1st round pick being attached you need to face reality here. This trade is bad for Detroit.
