all acquiring LTIR does is make it so we have no cap space, we'll just have an artificially inflated cap meaning we can't accrue space and make a trade mid-season like we did with Muzzin

Why would Buffalo trade their starter coming off a good year for a backup goalie?

Serious question, when people make these proposals sending Holl to Minnesota, do they actually look at Minnesota's roster or depth chart, or do they just say "hurr, Holl from Minny, he want go home"?

Why would Any Team trade their LTIR players? Zetterberg was a former captain and he cost peanuts, due to insurance. Makes zero chance.

Trading your LTIRs away is beneficial for the cap benefits. Trading for LTIRs only makes sense if you need to reach the cap floor, or if another team is adding enough assets to make it worthwhile for you. But there is no chance that Toronto will be trading for an LTIR, let alone 3 of them.

This team would be the cup favourites in the late 2000s or early 2010s with Thornton, Spezza, Gaborik, Hossa, Zetterberg and Chara.

Just because this is the least likely trade possible between the two teams and mn would never do it in a hundred years won’t stop maple leaf fans from proposing it.

LTIR is not a get out of jail free card.

These contracts are zero benefit to the Leafs.

You ate correct if the team has cap issues. But Wings do not have any cap issues. Ducks and Coyotes have issues with both being over the cap so sure they make sense if they have problems but Wings are under the cap even with Zetterberg in IR.
