TDL blockbuster with ARI for a playoff push

Created by: LafreniereIsGOATed
Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 1, 2020
Published: Dec. 1, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I look at this team and honestly I like it a lot. I like the adds of Barrie (although I don't see him as an awesome fit but I like the risk), Turris and Kahun. But, Neal should be out of here, he's useless outside of the PP and they should add a G. With Klefbom coming back from injury I think they're solid.

EDM
  1. Kessel, Phil ($1,250,000 retained)
  2. Raanta, Antti ($1,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Cap hit heading out of ARI: 7 075 000
Heading in ARI:7 900 000
So, short term, ARI takes on more cap. But, with Chiasson expiring, ARI would save a bit of money. Plus they could/should buy Neal out which would be a cheap move for them. I think it makes sense for them

Certainly an interesting "playoff" move. What version of Kessel is the question. The motivated player like when he played for the Pens, or the disinterested Phil for long stretches as Leaf.

Yeah. I believe playing with 97 at 5VS5 and with 97, Drai, Barrie and Yamamoto(!!!!!!!!!) on the top PP unit would be great for him

I was thinking that too. Playing with winners like Malkin and Crosby did wonders for Phil. Can he turn it on again for one and half seasons with the some very talented line mates in Edmonton.

But still. I think Nurse is better than everyone except Kelfbom and even that is a debate. That trade in my opinion is unrealistic. A team like the Coyotes being contenders, wouldn't do a deal to give up a really good backup to a kinda injury prone. And they aren't getting rid of Kessel especially when running for a playoff spot.

You're playing Russell ahead of Nurse? laugh

Nurse is the #1 defenseman on the team. Also Klefbom won't be 100% probably ever again.

Nah, I'd scratch Russell. I'd try to move Nurse for a d-man better at defense. Ekholm?

Trading a 25-year-old 1st pairing defenseman for a 30-year-old 2nd pairing defenseman is never a good idea. We'll keep Nurse, thanks.

Maybe at deadline would consider a move like this but right now I’d be concerned about what shape kessel is currently in. It’s been a question that’s followed him around his entire career thus far only right now thanks to COVID he’s been sitting a lot longer than normal times. If he’s in quality shape sure I’d be interested but right now I’d lean towards trusting neals conditioning more since he follows Gary Roberts conditioning routines.

No. Nurse is better than Ekholm. He is probably better than Klefbom because he has injury problems. You need to hold on the nurse.

Yotes being contender. Bet they make playoffs. Quote this. They'll be a underdog-type sneaky, scrappy team.

I’m not against that idea. I agree better at defence than nurse. I’m one of the few oilers fans that thinks nurse is better off being moved than extending to another super expensive extension. The traits I really like in nurse are very inconsistent like nastiness I’m not sure why soo many seem to see him as that when it appears that only shows up one every ten games. His biggest strength that does come with consistency is skating and puck transporting traits I don’t feel we really need to invest into. Jones broberg bear all excellent skaters on the blue line as far as puck transporting we have depth upfront that should be doing that in mcdavid nuge leon yam kahun so on I’d be ok with someone more stable defensively that would require less of a cap hit like a 30 year old ekholm

They finished 11th in the west last year and got worse in the offseason. That's not a playoff team let alone a "contender".

Ok maybe not Contenders for the cup but they are a playoff team and will be contenders if they're young guys like Barrett and garland develop a bit more, they will be contenders. That's what I meant. THEY ARE A PLAYOFF TEAM. NOT CUP WINNERS. Contender isn't the right word.

Keller will do very good as now the face of the franchise, Kessel will still put up 50, Garland will have 25 goals, Schmaltz could also crack 50. Hjalmarsson and Goligoski are old but are still solid. And Ekman-Larsson and Chychrun will only get better. The only question is is weather they can make it in the jam-packed pacific. They will make a WILD CARD AT LEAST. U WATCH. And I'm not even an coyotes fan.
