Vegas declines. Theodore is a stud on crazy good contract. You don't give that up when you're already trying to clear cap.

I would not trade Theodore straight up for Marner. Theodore’s going to be a finalist for the Norris trophy in the next few years. I don’t care who or what you offer but you don’t trade stud defenseman like that, not even for a talented player like Marner. You build your team around such a dynamic player.Examples of the past are Doughty/Kieth/Pietreangelo/Herman/ etc.... Are you counting the Stanley Cups........

Vegas would decline as well, with all their cap restrains doesn’t make sense for them, but Marner’s worth more

As was mentioned previously, Theodore has the potential to be a Norris trophy candidate some day and some day soon and as talented as Marner is I don’t think that’d ever happen. Especially when Vegas’s defense would be considered the weakest part of their roster makeup. You have Pietrangelo, Theodore who could be very good/elite, Martinez who is pretty good and then a drop off with the other 3-4 defenseman. It would be a travesty for this trade to ever happen
