That is a very steep price for only 33 games of experience

Wait. Trading Sandin, 1st and 2nd for one year of Merzlikins ? Also this guy is 26y/o with only 33 games played in the NHL...

Seems like a lot for Merzlikins, but I support any trade that results in Sandin getting to a new team.

Could the worse trade posted this year. One year of Merzlikins for two NHL regulars and 1st and 2nd round picks.

Any other ideas?
Maybe sign a failing Andersen for $3 million? Something tells me he won't go for that.

If you want good goaltending you have to pay for it.

Considering Merzlikins has yet to prove he's more than a platoon goalie (and he's playing on a Torts team) I'd much rather the Leafs keep all those assets and just sign someone like Raanta, Grubauer, Mrazek, Rittich, etc.

Also, goalies don't hold nearly that much value in trades.

I wouldn't trade Sandin straight up for him.

IMO Andersen won't be a Leaf in 21/22,unless the Leafs win the Cup next June. There will be lots of goalies available next summer as teams will be only be able to protect one for the expansion draft.
But I still say it's a terrible trade for the Leafs. Four good assets for a one year of Elvis. No team would offer even half that.

Are you not familiar with the cautionary tale of Steve Mason? or Andrew Raycroft?

If you're going to pay that price you have to be sure you know what you're getting and 33 games ain't enough to make that call

This trade is way too early to tell tbh, Merzlinkins having 33 game of experience isn’t enough to go on for Toronto to make this trade. It also depends on if Merzlinkins is the number one fans say he is or is Korpisalo the guy in Columbus.

I would give Cambell the starting job before doing this

There's paying for it, then there is overpaying for it.

This is grossly overpaying.
