Description

The only cap trick here is that with McElhinney on this roster, Tampa is 4K over the cap. Thanks to the taxi squad however, it's a very easy fix. On back-to-backs, you swap Gibson for McElhinney and Maroon for for ABB or Joseph.

McBackup definitely gets claimed as well. Teams need a 3rd goalie capable of playing. Some still need a good backup

Aside from waiver claims, even this small time would put you over the cap, and you can’t accrue cap space with Kucherov on LTIR.

There are no waivers for taxi squad. Waivers exist for the AHL, but AHL-style waivers wont be in place for taxi squad.

No such thing as claiming on taxi-squad. It's not a thing.

Do you have a source for this? I thought I saw something on twitter about guys needing to go through waivers when moved from the NHL roster to the taxi squad

It seems that I am mistaken. My understanding from original articles was taxi squad would not require waivers, but yes, as it appears they will. Either way, tampa ended up having to give up a 2nd round pick to get rid of Pacquette and Coburn's contract, while also taking back nearly 7.5M in LTIR (which was irrelevant to them this season anyways).

That’s my understanding after reading several articles. If you’ve got something that clarifies different please feel free to share. Cap friendly also has a tweet with a little explainer.

Yeh point is sort of moot now. Tampa has managed to get to cap compliance without having to sell the farm. Time will tell if they can do it next season. Hopefully Seattle will gladly take an expensive piece like TJ. They’ll still have to make another move or two unless they have another season long injury to an expensive player. But that’s next off seasons issue
