I like it. Buffalo is looking good with this roster. If they can keep hall past this year things are looking great for the future

Florida laughs hysterically at this.

Handle is only a scratch because Florida said "they don't see him as part of their future plans" which says nothing about his ability. It says they're looking to go with a younger, youth movement to save salary.

Yandle is still a 50 point d-man that runs most teams top PP unit. Maybe Mittelstadt and a 2nd gets a deal done, but they're not taking on a far worse contract in a veteran for him.

Sabres fans also need to stop selling so light on Montour. Should be looking at a roster player at least in return for him.

I think the value is good, but Detroit is not a fit. We already have a logjam at RHD and I can't see us giving up picks or futures for anything short of a MAJOR piece that will move the rebuild significantly forward. Otherwise, staying the course of drafting and development is our path, not trades.

@DeadWingsv2 hit the nail on the head for Detroit. The problem is going to find someone with cap to take him honestly as most teams have their rosters/taxi squad pretty set.

Detroit would accept,
But idk about Florida. Getting Okposo back is definitely not ideal for them, but the second is a good start.
I also think it’s definitely possible for Yandle to get moved but idk if it will be recently or at the TDL.

No, Detroit would not.

Yzerman has already come out multiple times saying he’s not trading picks unless the player is a core piece. Montour isn’t a core piece nor is he needed as we already have 8D + taxi squad plus we have Hronek + Seider on that side for the foreseeable future. Could you trade Montour for that return? We’ve seen vastly superior defensemen (Toews, Schmidt) go for roughly the same this offseason so we know moving cap isn’t super easy.

Florida saves 1.3 in cap, theyre probably going to have to eat cap on a Yands trade anyway in the current league, this may be one of the few offers where they save money. Okposo also has a declining salary

True, As a couple of other users theorized, this would be Yzerman, borrowing Montour for the year and moving him at the deadline. Montreal did this last year with Scandella, they ended up turning an 4th into a 2nd. Yzerman could turn a 2nd and 4th into a 1st+, its a gamble but Buffalo is selling low on Montour anyway so Yzerman has room to make a profit

Cap sure. But Yandle has more value than that and they can save more by moving him for a guy like Mittelstadt and a pick rather than taking on a anchor like Okposo

Just like every other team in the NHL, except for LA, Det, Ott, and NJ, the Sabres cant take on the full weight of that cap hit but I wouldnt mind adding Mittelstadt. Nothing is more of an anchor than 6.3 mill sitting in the press box

But we don’t have a spot for him and I doubt Montour gets a first + at TDL. Only Skjei returned a first last year for defensemen and Montreal gambled a fourth round pick not a second + fourth.

Your first pair is looking pretty empty, he'll easily slot in there. 5 of Detroits D-men, Staal, Biega, McIssac, Djoos, and Nemeth, are 7th dmen at best, anyone of them can sit

I've been right on every single move he made or didn't make.

We meaning the red wings fans.

I know enough about the direction of the red wings and listen to every single yzerman press conference, this is not the direction we are currently going. So yes this is a complete pass

Hronek is our 1RD and we already picked up Stetcher. On the left side DeKeyser, Merrill, and Nemeth. So that leaves Staal, Lindstrom, Biega, and Djoos all fighting for that last spot. So no, we don’t have a spot for him and I doubt he fetches a first or first + at TDL given the most recent TDL as a comp.

Sami Vatanen for Janne Kuokkanen Fredrik Claesson and a 2020 conditional 4th round pick
Im extremely high on Kuokkanen and would put his value close to a high 2nd low 1st + a 4th and Claesson

That doesn't matter to Florida. That's Buffalo's problem. Buffalo would need to be able to work it out amongst their own roster, but that doesn't affect Yandle's value.

That will mater to Florida when no one takes Yandle because of that attitude. Theyre the ones scratching him
