3-Team Deal for Defensemen

Created by: bruinsdude77
Team: 2020-21 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 22, 2021
Published: Jan. 22, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pittsburgh wants defense. Florida wants Yandle gone. Boston wants even strength offense.

A fourth is better than I would expect Florida to get considering Yandle has to approve the deal and his contract is awful. It makes up for the retained salary too. Still $3.35MM in savings per year for the Cats. Pens get exactly what they need - a depth defenseman who plays solid whenever he’s on the ice regardless of how infrequent that is. Bs get a dynamic offensive defenseman who can be paired with their top defensive defenseman to shelter him. Yandle can replicate Krug’s PP production. Not to mention he’s a local guy who has previously expressed a desire to play in Boston.

As for the future, the post-trade quarantine possibility could mean the iron man streak comes to an end. That would mean Yandle doesn’t need to play every game moving forward - and maybe shouldn’t given his age. Between he, the oft-injured Grz and Miller, and the TBD experiment with Lauzon, there will be plenty of opportunity for Zboril to play this year. And if Yandle (the Bs decline to honor his NMC after he waives), Lauzon, or Zboril are selected in Expansion, even more opportunity for the kids moving forward.

Why doesn’t Pitts just give Fla the picks for Yandle?

Keep in mind the whole thing with Yandle supposedly started out because he would not waive his NMC for a 3 way trade to send him to Boston. Fla management wanted to punish him for not waiving by benching him to snap his streak. Maybe the whole thing has left a sour taste in his mouth and he waives now. But not sure if I want to bring someone In who did not want to initially and has 3 years left and declining skills.

Pittsburgh could want defense but I would think they want good defense. Bruins want EV off but Yandle has had 48% of his points on the PP over the past three seasons. That's a lot. He's certainly a good PP QB but given his age, his contract and the Seattle draft, imo you don't trade for him.

"And if Yandle (the Bs decline to honor his NMC after he waives), Lauzon, or Zboril are selected in Expansion, even more opportunity for the kids moving forward" Bruins leave them but also one of Grzelcyk/Carlo if he doesn't waive his clause.

There’s no scenario where the bruins move Moore, get a 3 million retained yandle, and somehow gain a draft pick.

This short season was a gift for Sweeney to keep Chara - he declined. Rationale suggested by Chara is that management wants to play the "kids" and bringing in Yandle disrupts that 4-games-in!

Management wanted Chara to retire 2 years ago....when he should have. 🤷🏻‍♂️
