No chance pionk is getting 6 million. 5.5 at most, I think 5x4.75m is pretty accurate for pionk. So much cap flexibility though. They should be throwing the kitchen sink at Hamilton if he gets to free agency. Like 7x9.75m, even that’s probably not enough, but still they should give him their best offer. They’ll be able to make a lot of improvements this summer.

My idea for the jets

sign Hoffman to replace Laine in the top 6
trade for a top 4 LD or sign Murray as a UFA
if Bros looks good extend him if not sign Reimer

as for pionk im thinking 5 mill for 5 yrs

One of Appleton or Harkins if I had to guess. Unless Seattle feels like taking a chance on Niku or Stanley.

No chance Copp doesn't get protected now that Roslo is gone

I like those free agency plans. Pionk 5x5 sounds about right, shouldn’t get over 5 million.

Really depends what kind of season he has. It's hard to deny him 6 if he ends up getting 40 points in 56 games while arbitration eligible.

First things first, I would resign stastny. Have him to a 2 year deal and have him play 2c/2lw. Then, move perfetti to lw and copp to rw. Bring back Lowry but to play 4c. Gives us arguably the best centre core in the league. Finally, get a winger to play on the second line until perfetti is ready there. Preferably right handed or someone who doesn’t mind the right side. Maybe a duclair? Or even a JVR type, though I’d expect ot be compensated for taking that contract.

Something like:
Connor-schiefele-wheeler
Duclair-Dubois-ehlers
Perfetti-stastny-copp
Harkins-lowry-Vesalainen

To protect for the expansion draft, make a move like appleton+ to stay off berdin and harkins

Finally, throw some money at Hamilton. If we can bring him in, great. If not, go for a severson or Murphy. Someone as a stopgap for a couple of years until heinola or Samberg are ready for top pairing minutes (though heinola already is)

Defence something like:
JoMo-Hamilton/severson
Samberg-pionk
Heinola-demelo

Of course if we can bring back forbort, I don’t mind having Samberg spend another year in the A, or even moving demelo.

I think Stanley is going to force his way in, or Seattle steals him, I like the plan up front, what was the longterm money sticking point rumours on Dubois, or was he just wanting out of Columbus? That trade is starting to grow on me

The trade is decent when you take everything into consideration. Firstly, chevy wouldn’t have done this if there was even a chance of Laine resigning imo. So he wanted out. As for the price, I’m not too happy about giving Roslovic away for free (especially when I think he will be a top 6 forward). Therefore, it was an overpayment in that sense. Nonetheless, chevy made out decent from a bad situation. The jets are still able to compete (and even be contenders) without laine in the mix which shoudl be viewed as a win. With laine trades for futures, we likely miss our window where wheeler is still good. Therefore, not bad for chevy.

However, why did the laine situation get to where it did. What I hate even more is that while wheeler and Maurice took responsibility for the relationship going bad, chevy took none. Imo he was most at fault. Laine and schiefele simply do not work as well together as scheifele with the jets’ other wingers. Maurice was not wrong there. However, it is chevy’s responsibility to find a 2c that works. Laine didn’t have a centre for the majority of his tenure in Winnipeg. When the jets finally found one, he couldn’t pony up the extra 500K Vegas offered Stastny to keep him around. I imagine that if stastny stuck around, we woudl have been in a different situation right now, one where the only lottery pick of jets 2.0 history is still a jet.

As for Dubois, he made a clear point: “there’s Dubois the hockey player and there’s Dubois the human”. There was something in Columbus that went on that made him feel...well not human or at least unimportant. Maybe it was the long negotiations (as we all know how mean those can be) or maybe torts’ harsh behaviour. Maybe, he was just sick of being in a good but not great team. He alluded to that a lot. They worked hard very night and played the best they could, but it was never enough to get deep into the playoffs because that team simply wasn’t good enough. On paper, they were barely a bubble team. He might have realized that and said, heck this team isn’t going anywhere. I’m done.

In the end, I think it’s a combination of the two that did it for him. I honestly don’t blame either player. I wish laine gave the jets some more time with them bringing in stastny and drafting perfetti (the elite playmaker he needed) but I don’t blame him. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for him to have to go play with little night in and night out when everyone knew it doesn’t work. As for Dubois, don’t blame him at all, sometimes it’s just like that. That said, he better not pull another stunt like “the shift” ever again.

Instead of bridging they should have ante up like they did with the majority of the other 1st rounders, 2nd overall is a different animal, not what they had been used to, and basically Russian roulette and Chevy and the ownership group flinched first. I kind of question the ability to trade or the return at that point, but the need wouldn’t have been there with a 5/8 year deal instead of the 2 year deal and ufa status looming. Who do you think gets first shot in top 6 stasny or copp?

Disagree, think they could have easily made things better with Laine and resigned him they just chose not to and as for the not fitting with Scheifele I don't buy that either, they were both on pace for the best seasons of their careers last season and Laine's leading the back check while Scheifele drags his a$s back but Chevy isn't gonna mention that, the way Dayoff/Maurice/TNSE are selling this crappy trade is bull*hit.

They better win a cup now or its time for a house cleaning.

I agree that they could have fixed it, but they believed they couldn’t. That much is evident from chevy’s interview. Therefore, if that’s what they believed, then this isn’t a brutal trade. However, not great tbh. This will be a regret if jets fans for a long time...

The fact that chevy took zero responsibility is maddening as well. As I said before.

What I've gathered from all the insiders and media people interviewed and Laine himself the relationship seemed to be mendable between Laine and the organization, what I took from Chevy's interviews following the trade was him throwing a bit of shade at Laine and his camp for not accepting the role they felt he should be in and I took from Chevy he had little interest in trying to work things out with Patrik, wasn't that he felt he couldn't more that he couldn't be bothered too, I really fault Maurice and Chipman in this embarrassing debacle as well, too much pandering to cranky Wheeler by those three who also tried to accept some blame without really accepting any blame, the saying Laine didn't work with Schiefele is just a deflection tactic to control the narrative.

I'm very disappointed in the entire organization.

I honestly don’t think the jets will ever pay anybody higher than the 8 neighborhood And as soon they didn’t gamble and show the confidence in laine and went the bridge route, the writing was on the wall. They gambled on the 7th overall to 13th overall picks of the past and paid them a little higher than they were worth at the time and they all worked out. Trouba was the exception, because he was always some what one step out the door. So the make up trade hopefully works out with Dubois, the roslovic gift along with laine a little tough, roslovic kinda got Mauriced out of town, bottom 6 play is terrible but hopefully learning with Stanley, Appleton and harkins finally getting some ice and not instant yanked out of lineup.
