Removing The Traffic Cones

Created by: THECLUGG
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 23, 2020
Published: Jan. 25, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Doubtful the Wings can get any returns on some of these players, but I'd take a bag of pucks and a soda for most of the players I traded away. Bring in the young guys and give them roles on the 3rd and 4th lines to see what they can bring. It'd at least energize the lineup with the younger faster guys.

What's going on with Mantha?!?! I was shocked watching both those games. It wasn't just last game either. The goal was just the final alert to what I saw pretty consistently the 1st game too. Absolutely zero effort in the defensive zone. Literally just watched Kubalik take shots on Greiss within 2' of him. no stick effort, no push, just stood there. Someone needs to light a fire under him or bench him.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66z_pCMu6Sw Time 2:50 is a good example. Sure, I'll agree Larkin deserves some criticism on this specific play too, but Larkin's effort and play overall was really really good for the two games.

lol wow...this is disgusting. You don't understand what you're watching if you want to get rid of Mantha that.

Who knows with Mantha, but I can't stand the lack luster effort. When he decides he wants to play hockey, he can easily be the best player on the ice. My guess is he's trying to get out of Detroit just like Dubois wanted out of Columbus, but Mantha hasn't been vocal about it (yet). Obviously, the Wings aren't loaded with super star talent to hide his lazy play, so I'd gladly take a player of a bit less skill that gives 110% game in, game out.

That being said, I think DeBrincat is of an equal skillset to Mantha's. Each player is more dominant in different parts of their games, but I feel it would be a pretty fair trade in the end. Wings get a pure goal scorer and a guy who shows up to play nightly. Hawks get a player with great potential and cap relief.

Mantha is just showing the effects of not playing in 11 months. He's essentially still in training camp mode. I'm not excusing it, as he needs to take personal responsibility for his conditioning, but I wouldn't hit the panic button on him until at least week 3. With that said, he's been very bad thus far.

Not touching that Seabrook contract in the hopes he retires or more likely LTIRetire. Mantha hasn’t played hockey in how long? It takes time to get going and shake off the rust so I’m not too worried.

Yeah I agree, it's been some time since he's played and rust is certainly a factor. I still think he's got the potential to be an outstanding player, but I just don't see the commitment and effort game in, game out for him to be that player everyone expects him to be.

I agree rust is definitely a factor and it's early in the season still. I'm basing this trade on the sole fact that his compete level this year is almost non existent and in recent years it has been acceptable about 50-60% of games. When he moves his feet and decides to skate, he's truly an exceptional player. If he decides to skate harder and give a better effort night in and night out... I wouldn't have any thoughts about what the Wings could get in return via trade.
