Exactly! Our left side looks really good right now tbh (when healthy of course):
Dumo, MP; Matheson, POJ, Riikola.
Seems like they should use a position of strength to improve a position of weakness AKA replace Jano
Jano has to go no dobut.
But the real issue is you don't weaken what you have. While we have nice depth there. Dumo, MP and POJ are really the only quality there at the moment.
Since you don't have to pay POJ aka rookie deal, that's not the guy you move, and you don't downgrade Dumo or MP to play Matheson.
They need to dump that Matheson contract and leave the LD alone. Teams deep on the blueline do well and in 2 years when POJ needs a new deal you'll be looking at Dumo being 31 and his contract ending. The timing is right then to probably move Dumo and keep your youth. You'd be looking at a solid young D core with MP, Marino, POJ and maybe Maniscalco.
So i don't see why anyone would want to move these young guys. It doesn't make sense for the team.
Problem is odds of improving on Jano with Matheson right now are non existent. That contract is bad till proven otherwise.
This team has 3 good defensemen on the LD side, and considering one is low pay, they should role with it as their best chance to win.
They have other options to improve the forward group. They could have played Poulin. Moved McCann to center. I honestly think that is the best move they can make.
Or they can play Lafferty. But unless they can move Matheson these answer got to come from within.
