Panarin trade to Leaf, as suggested earlier. Leaf version

Created by: palhal
Team: 2017-18 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 12, 2016
Published: Dec. 12, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
. Leafs might be one of few teams that might have cap and wouldn't send money back to Hawks.
Might be more to added (by what team?). Value wise, Leafs win at least short term. Hawks get cap room and likely a guy who can play on the top 2 lines for years.

Maybe it could work, however 1. I think CHI will find a way to resign Panarin, even if its a Kucherov contract and 2. It might be better savings to sign Nylander to a cheaper, hometown discount

I just looked at the stats....and I'm not a real big stats guys. This year, 20 year old Nylander playing with rookie Matthews, 17 points in 26 games....prorated 54 points. 25 year old Panarin playing with Hawks, 24 points in 30 games, prorated 66 points. Gee maybe the Leafs don't make the deal. More upside to Nylander and save money for maybe a RHD.

And that statement is what gives advanced stat junkies the nerve to come out of their basements. squinty smile Although going to have agree with them here though. Simply prorating stats over a full season is something hockey minds were doing in the 80's and thought they were ahead of the game. That doesn't fly anymore palhal. Points in general, mean much less then what they lead on. Especially in the new NHL.

Patrick Eaves is on pace for the same amount of points as Jonathan Drouin,..... I think you can see where I'm taking this. Point is right now, Panarin >>>> Nylander. Regardless of points. Will he be in 5 years? That I'm not certain of at all.

Although I am not suggesting Panarin is a stud defensively he surely has to be better than Nylander.

One thing I like about this trade is getting a LWer. I want this addressed sooner rather than later.

What I hate is the $$$$.

Thing is, is that this might be good for the Leafs, but Chicago I'm assuming would want an LW in return as they already have Kaner and Hossa on the other side.
