CBJ doesn't do that at all, that would leave a huge hole in their D with no one to replace him....also hes their work horse as good as willie is i think it would cost more.

If the Leafs lose again, trading Nylander wont help your cause....trade Matthews for a lot and use his cap space for 2-3 players

Trade an MVP candidate and top 3 player in the league and that helps your team?

You've struck out here my friend.

ok...keep him and continue to lose. The best option would be to trade Taveras but you cant...TML biggest weakness is the lack of cap space

The problem is, Jones has only one year left on his contract after this one. Leafs should not do it unless Jones comes with an extension, but then ya, no way Columbus touches it then unless Jones isn't willing to stay there (which is possible so maybe such a deal could work, theoretically, but it's just not the way the nhl works).

I hope you are joking when you suggest to trade the likely rocket winner this year. Matthews is worth every penny of his 11.64 mil contract.

If the Leafs lose 1st round this doesn't address what they need.

Jones is a more offensive d-man and they already have those in Rielly, Holl, and Sandin, not to mention some good prospects in Niemela and Hollowell coming up. So he doesn't address a need really. & with Jones only having 1 year on his deal left, Nylander has more team control and would get a better package than that. Plus having to re-sign Rielly and Jones at the same time would just be hell.

Mrazek also doesn't solve the goaltending issues. He's so hot and cold, worse of a freaky goalie than Andersen, that the media would eat him alive and he wouldn't live up to expectations. I'd imagine they'll either give the net to Campbell next year or go with a massive upgrade at goalie.

I think that's the next area to be addressed and only area really. Dubas added the grit, the experience, the defence, the offensive depth, next has to be the goaltending. I'd love to see an off-season move around a Nylander package for Gibson in Anaheim. I think it'd really solve a lot of problems for Toronto and put them over the top

Trade Tavares WAYYY before Matthews, he's what they need to build around.

Trading a MVP candidate and best goal scorer in the league before he's 25 because you think it'll help the team win more is one of the dumbest moves you can make. Dubas does that and he's fired the next day. Doesn't matter what the return is.

Matthews & Tavares are untouchable. One is a generational player, the other is a franchise C. You just don’t trade players of those caliber.

Normally I’d say to trade Marner, but he’s playing really well & given how little but he’d bring back due to contract, it might not be worth it.

Jones has been horrendous this season anyway. I think the leafs D core is fine, they just need Rielly to play better.

If the team fails, I wouldn’t mind trading Nylander to NYR for Lafreniere + 1st.

Seth Jones has been awful the past 2 years. Leafs wouldn't even do this deal, and they probably wouldn't even think about it. Losing Jones is fine as he is so replaceable

Leafs fan here:

There's no way Nylander gets Lafreniere + a 1st round pick in a deal.

I agree neither of Tavares or Matthews are going anywhere. Neither is MArner with his current production. If anyone leaves it's Nylander.

I wouldn't mind that rangers trade either...

that's because if Dubas suggested such a trade the New York GM would tell him he's crazy. Laf>Nylander.

Honestly the Columbus trade is a lose lose for both teams IMO. Columbus has been bad defensively (Jones is a big reason why) and they have too many wings as it stands. Nylander isn’t great as a center and isn’t very good defensively. So he doesn’t really help them all too much.

Toronto side- as pointed out Jones hasn’t been good the last few seasons, so adding him to the leafs with 1 year left on his contract isn’t going to help them win a cup. Nylander as a top 6 wing is much more beneficial to the leafs as a scorer as he is going to score as many goals as he gives up, Jones on the other hand has given up more than he’s scored the last few years.

Honestly trade Nylander for a 1st and a solid prospect and sign a UFA like Savard for like 5.0x4 and Toronto would be in a much better place cap wise and they’d have a little more draft capital if they choose to move it or use it to select a player who would (or should) be good on an ELC to replace Nylander in 2 years.

Fair enough. I just feel Lafreniere would be a great fit in TOR cuz he’s a really relentless, aggressive & physical LW who plays kinda like Hyman.

Well Lafreniere hasn’t been producing this season so that’s why I feel NYR needs to add.
