Won’t kill you for having an opinion like most Leaf fans do. Personally I’m mixed on this idea:
On one hand we legitimately have the one of top lines in the league that can score at will almost and dominate every shift they take. Can put anyone on that wing with Matthews Marner and they will succeed.
But with JT and Nylander taking a more conservative approach to offence this year and concentrating more on the d-zone, they gave up one more goal than they scored with the Nylander and JT on the ice last year. There offence has really struggled. The pair has struggled to create scoring chances at the same rate that they did in 2019-2020, generating just 2.47 expected goals per 60 at even strength – down from 3.22 last season.
IMO Matthews can play with anyone and not lose a beat. JT had he’s best season as a pro when paired with Marner. So to your point it wouldn’t be the worst idea ever to try and recreate that form those two had.
