The way he's playing, I don't think that's an option.

One injury in the top 6 and that team is done.

You seem to have made some unrealistic deals just to fit Panarin gets sign. How does AHLer Pokka warrants a top 40 and 70 pick? Does Campbell sign again for even less money? And I'll never understand the way some RFAs were signed last summer , why the Hawks have to go all in at 7m for 6 years. No one is going offer that much due to compensation and few good teams have the cap space.

Your comments don't have much bearing on whether Panarin can fit. Campbell can sign for $1.5 again and he'll still fit this model -- there's enough space. I've heard Pokka is a pretty good prospect. But so what if CHI gets less in return than here? Doesn't change anything. Also, with inflation, I think that $7/per for Panarin could be a major bargain in a couple of seasons. Look at the Rangers' McDonagh contract, for example.

CHI will still have many young, skilled players making under $1 million. They didn't go belly-up just now when they lost Toews. They'd need a few other problems to get into real trouble. I envy CHI -- they're set for years to come.

I think they can fit him but I don't think they need to trade Panik or neglect they're backup goaltending. They also value Kruger much more than that. He is overpaid but is a key penalty killer, starts an obscene amount of his shifts is his own end to free up the Toews and Anisimov, all while being +10. In a long term deal I think 7 is a little high. He is a great scorer but not overly effective defensively and he is a winger. 6 would be as high as I would go but I think a more likely scenario is attempting a bridge deal for 2 years to get him to the end of Kruger's deal.

A lot of things need adjustments here.

There are already $2M in bonuses achieved for next year. Campbell has 500k bonus for playing in 10 games. Pokka won't get two draft picks or even $1M let alone $2M. Sure there is a log jam of NHL defenseman for the hawks, but that wasn't the case last year and he still never saw ice time. I'm not saying he's bad at all, just that the hawks can't think too highly of him if they play TVR, Gustafson, and Svedberg over him. Kruger would get a lot more than that, but they're not trading him. $7M for panarin is UFA money. He's a very good player, but so are the other RFA signings that signed for far less. Panarin will fit because it may have to be a bridge deal, but gotta get rid of those bonuses.

Save $ on Kempny. He's been a healthy scratch even with Seabrook out. Same situation here...He's not a bad player at all, but he's still learning how to play NHL defense and not KHL defense. Pay him for what he's done, not what might be in the future. Less than $1M until he proves he can't be a real NHL defensemen.
