that Nylander trade is laughable. Come on, you're joking right? Brown is on a nice roll to start the season but he's 36, Roy is a 3rd pair D

Roy isn't a 3rd pair dman, but I get your point. This is a bad trade for Toronto.

You are entitled to your opinion.

If you haven't noticed, the Kings are a decent team this season. Doughty is once again one of the front runners for the Norris, Kopitar is like 7th in points, Brown is 1 point off from a point per game, and the Kings are in 18th place.

Fun fact, before Roy was injured the Kings were in 12th place. While he was injured the Kings lost 5 straight games and saw themselves in 30th place. Ever since Roy came back, the Kings have won 3 straight games and now in 18th place. I'm not saying he's the one directly responsible for that, but he is the 2nd best and 2nd most important defenseman on the team. Even with our 3rd best defenseman Walker injured, Doughty and Roy keep carrying the blueline through many wins.

It doesn't matter what team you play for, if you're on the 2nd pair you still play against the same competition every night. He plays 22-23+ minutes every night and plays the PK every night, which means he plays against top 6 forwards and top 4 defensemen every night.

It doesn't matter what you think of Roy, the evidence is there if you want to look at it.

sorry, decent wasn't the right word. I was more looking for on a contender (like a top 10 team). He's a bottom 3 D on any team with a chance at the cup.

also Doughty in the Norris convo again is quite the stretch but yes he is a lot better

Gotcha.

Last I checked Doughty is 3rd in points by defensemen and isn't a minus, but again you're entitled to your opinion.

Just to clarify my justification on trading William Nylander, it was for cap flexibility now and next year when TO will need to reup some important pieces such as Hyman, a couple of D men and a starting goalie. Not to mention how we set up for the expansion draft.

Looking at Brown and his compete level and playoff experience, I do not see it going AWOL as Willy's does. It also made room for Ekholm (top 4 D'man) and Bennett with his grit and compete level.

Willy won't be going into the corners or front of the net anytime soon, especially over the next 4-5 years, I think the makeup of the team is better suited for the Playoffs than they are now.
