Description
imo this team should’ve been rebuilding last year, at the very least retooling. They very clearly aren’t more than a fringe playoff team with this roster and lack star power, with an amazing draft coming up soon this could be their chance to luck out and get a real superstar on this team. Markstrom was a bad signing in the grand scheme of things, and getting Lucic was a dumb idea, at least you can buy out neal, whereas lucic has to be paid 5.17 mil if you buy him out. Above all, I’d get a real coach. Gallant is available, you know he’s a good coach. Honestly feels like this organization needs new management, ownership, top to bottom. They’ve got a lot of good young supporting pieces but can’t deploy them properly.

First of all I’d keep Gaudreau if he wants to stay, and isn’t asking for more than 9 mil. I really doubt this happens though, so I traded him to Pittsburgh

They won’t be able to get a good haul for Gio, but being a Norris winner just 2 years ago obviously will make it easier than not to move him. Morrisey hasn’t been that good for Winnipeg and looks like he needs a change in scenery, a deal like this seems like the only way it would get done

This is top to bottom stupid. Gaudreau to Vegas makes no sense for Vegas
Morrisey is a good d man for a long time on a good contract, Winnipeg would be brain dead to move him and Giordano doesn't get you a sniff.
Hanifin is in the same boat as Morrisey and is only getting better on an even better contract, that's beyond a dumb trade for a guy who is boom or bust.
Just because as an Oilers fan you rebuilt this team it doesn't mean the Flames should take the Oilers approach to defense, that is seriously lacking the defensive zone prowess that a high caliber team needs.
Getting Lucic was a product of getting rid of Neal which is a great move, Neal would have produced nothing in Calgary because he didn't have two other players shooting the puck off his stick on the PP and he wasn't good enough to play in the top 9 on the wing. Lucic is liked in the room takes up way too much ice time but shows a hint of effort as opposed to Neal who was ducking scrums and turning away form any contact in the playoffs for the Flames.

i don't think you could have done worse at this.

Bill Guerin was reportedly (Russo) not interested in Monahan this summer.

For the sake of conversation in this thread though, the Wild aren't adding a 1st to that deal. Dumba for Monahan happens mostly 1 for 1 or it doesn't happen.

Wild pass. They didn't want Money for Dumba last offseason. Giving up Dumba and a 1st is way too much.
