Where do you put Dzingel in the lineup

Created by: sensonfire
Team: 2020-21 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 27, 2021
Published: Feb. 27, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
How do you reorganize the lineup, now that Dzingel is coming in?

Dzingel's final day of quarantine is today.

He should play in Monday's game against Calgary, barring something ridiculous or unfortunate.

Also, do you put him on special teams right away or wait to see how he does 5 on 5?

And when does Logan Brown play?

Let me know your thoughts :D

I'm leaving the top line the same, and retooling the middle six ince Dzingel is in.

Putting White in between Stützle and Batherson. Stützle and Batherson are looking more and more dominant every game. White has been very solid lately, and he's a much better than basically any C those two have had this season. Easy decision as the 2nd line.

For the other line I'm moving Paul to C and putting him between Dzingel and Dadonov. Paul has been Ottawa's best forward in the dots this season, and he's a better offensive option than Tierney or God forbid Anisimov.

There's also the option of nick Paul down to the 4th line and Logan Brown between Dzingel and Dadonov, but that feels less likely at this point.

I have a feeling that because zinger hasn't played in over two weeks, he'll start off in a limited role until he can get up to speed.

Logan Brown will probably get about 8-10 minutes of ice time per game on the 4th line.

If neither DJ Smith nor GM PD like what they see, they'll send him back to the taxi squad and trade him before the deadline.

If they do like what they see, he'll stay where he is or move up in the lineup (3C maybe?)

IDK. Just a hunch.

If the plan is to play Brown 8 minutes with Austin Watson, just trade him now. He's not going to change the Team's mind if he's not put in a situation to succeed. Throw him in the deep end. Give him real linemates, real minutes and let him prove what he is or isn't.

I know but there are a few issues that need resolving when it comes to Logan Brown.

1. In order to trade him, you need to find another team that would want him.

2. Because he doesn't play any position other than centre, he has to fight for ice time against centres who are already proven NHL players for the Sens.

Based on this post, Tkachuk, Norris, Paul, White, Stutzle, Tierney, Batherson, Dzingel and Anisimov can all play centre.

That's 9 different players that Logan Brown has to compete against for ice time.

That's tough.

3. When he played last season, his ice time dwindled for some reason and this season, he couldn't even make the final roster out of training camp.

I'm not saying he will, for sure, get 10 minutes of ice time and to tell you the truth, I wish he was more than just surplus labour.

But there are reasons why Anisimov has already played for the Sens and Logan Brown has not.

They probably have already been established between coaching and management, which is why Logan Brown is the odd man out more often than not.

If on paper he looks like a bust, plays like a bust and gets the ice time of a bust, then he's probably a bust :/

I think he should go on the top line...all Tkachuk and Norris lack is a little bit of speed and finishing, which Dzingel brings. C Brown at heart is a 4th line grinder

If Dzingel plays at all this week it's only because it's a back-to-back situation. My guess is the Montreal game on Tuesday - 4th line duties and, if he's looking good, the odd shift with the middle 6.
I'd love to see Brown line up with Stützle and Batherson, but we all know what's about to happen... He'll be put with players who struggle with the puck so that he's forced to play in his own end on all of his shifts in the first period, then he'll spend most of the 2nd and 3rd stapled to the bench. Move back to the taxi squad. Go back to Belleville. Never become an NHL player.

Dzingel has not skated for two weeks. I am not sure he comes in until he stretches himself out and has a few practices under his belt with his new line mates.

Yeah I would expect him to be at least a few more days of skating, but once he's in he should be good to go. It's only been two weeks, and they have a pretty limited time to figure out what they have there before the deadline
