Expansion Draft Question

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2021-22 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 2, 2021
Published: Mar. 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Essentially my question is if the Blackhawks will have to protect Seabrook since he did not play most of last season or any of this season so far. I am also wondering about Toews if he is physically ill.

Here is the part of the expansion draft FAQ that makes me wonder about this. If any of you guys have some insight let me know.
Injured Players
Players with potential career-ending injuries who have missed the previous 60+ consecutive games due to an injury, do not meet the criteria set forth by the league in respect to the minimum exposure requirements for players, and in certain cases these players may even be deemed as exempt from the Expansion Draft selection process.

I have to think either Subban or CDH gets the call here. My guess would be CDH because there are much better goalie options

no one knows yet, the NHL will be the ones making those rulings prior to the expansion draft lists are submitted as im sure they have to review all the medical information on those players who teams want to be left exempt.

I would guess that Seabrook will likely have to be protected. He's said numerous times that he wants to return to play when healthy. It'll depend on his medical tests prior to the expansion draft to see though

Toews it depends on what the situation is (no one knows get), seabrook will likley need to be protected but like some of us have been saying on this site for a while seabs will almost 100% waive knowing there is no way seattle takes him. That would allow us to protect Kieth, Murphy, Zad on defence.

Bro you right. Locker room leadership is underrated these days.

I also agree that we protect Toews, as I have him rostered for next season, and don’t have to for Seabrook... but I wanted some other opinions.

I am a big Nylander guy, so it’s my preference we protect him, however all things considered we actually don’t have many guys we need to protect on forward because our roster is so young. I question If Shaw will play again, but if he would we might protect him over a guy like Kämpf. In the explanation trade I have them ranked based on who I would protect in order with Kane and Toews being NMC equals. So yeah, if it’s me I’m protecting nylander.

I just wonder if he (Seabrook) didn’t play for half of last year, and doesn't play all of this year if the NHL would make us protect him. I think there is a reasonable case to have him exempt due to injuries, and I wouldn’t put too much stock into him waiving to help the Blackhawks out... it just doesn't feel like something that would happen.

Im hoping this is the case in regards to Seabrook waiving.
