I wouldn't do any of these trades tbh

That first round pick is going to be very high so I'm not confident in trading it
I would like at least a second for Gusev
Wood is worth more that a 2nd

It's the wrong team for a Forsberg deal -- but for a cup team, that's the price. Two cup runs (NJD will miss this year, so it doesn't make sense for them)

I wouldn't trade Bratt for Forsberg straight up....
Not to mention add Mercer and a potential lottery pick
Afraid you are miles off on this one

2021 draft isn't great, I doubt we get a player as good as Forsberg with that pick.
We'd be lucky to get a 3rd for him right now, he's been awful this year.
Recency bias, if he keeps playing like he is throughout the season then maybe.

NJD is the wrong team, but that's the kind of deal it would take to get Forsberg out of NSH.

Not at all. 1 year of Forsberg for 3-10 years of Bratt?
What Devils fan wants the former option over the latter?

Its not at all.
Bratt will be big part of this team for years,
Forsberg will come for a year and leave to get paid.

I agree 2021 draft isn't great, but right now we are guaranteed a top 10 pick. The player we draft will likely not be as good as Forsberg, but giving up Mercer, Boqvist, and other pieces, it wouldn't be worth it.
We traded a 2nd and 3rd for Gusev, so getting a 2nd back would be ideal
The type of player Wood is, is very valuable, especially a guy on low salary and has term

I love that the immediate assumption is that he doesn't want to be here and will walk in FA. obviously you wouldn't make the move if you didn't think you could get him signed.

Forsberg is great but I have a hard time believing you would get a much better offer than Mercer, top 10 pick, 3rd round pick.

That's not a bad deal.

The way I see it, Forsberg is probably worth something like an A prospect, B prospect, and a 1st + maybe something else if Poile is good or retains salary. Mercer fits the A prospect, the 1st is there, the other piece is debatable -- B prospect / 3rd / middle 6 forward / etc. But yeah, I don't think your suggestion is off base. That's why a 1st + Mercer + Bratt (middle 6 forward) makes sense to me -- but ultimately I don't see him as a fit for NJD because they won't pay as much for him given that they won't be in the playoffs this season. For a playoff team that can use him for 2 cup runs, I think he could get a good haul.

Make it sign and trade then. Or trade and sign.
But if you are saying Bratt, Mercer, 1st is worth 1-year of Forsberg... whats your price on 5-years of Forsberg? (I don't even want to know).
None of it makes sense for NJD.
You guys are just starting your rebuild, we are year or two in.
Better to find another home for Forsberg.

I truthfully don’t think we’re in a buying position at the moment, which is the only reason I’m against trading for Forsberg. That being said, this is an overpayment and a half.
