I think the trade benefits Toronto as Gibson is under contract for 7 years.

Think of it as Nylander for Gibson and Anderson/1st for Rakell.

Not sure if Liljregren needs to be added, but he is way behind schedule at this point.

Toronto fleeces Anaheim IMO. Not necessarily saying that the trade is not close, just the gap between Gibson and Freddy is massive. Rakell can be a solid replacement for nylander. Lilly doesn’t look like he’s anything crazy special and that first will be late.

I don't like for the Leafs. Leafs probably have no intention and can't really pay 6.4m for a goalie in the next few seasons. Rakell is OK to good but just 1.5 years till UFA.
Leafs are going to depend on Liljegren to be a starter next season. He's playing well for the Marlies this season. Then to add a first. too much

Don't know why you say that about Liljegren. He's at the same stage as many players drafted about where he was in same draft. He's playing well for the Marlies and he's just 21...almost 22.

3 players in the first round of the 2017 NHL draft have played fewer NHL games than him

A player drafted 17th overall should have more than 11 NHL games in their draft plus 4 season.

Where do you think Liljergen slots in for next season?

The Leafs can lose three of top 7 Dmen next summer, UFAs Bogosian, Lehoten, and one of Dermot or Holl to expansion.
Sandin and Liljegren should make the Leafs next summer as good cost control ELCs.

Really? Lots of those players who have played more than LIljegren have played just 30 games or less. Just because the Sabres had to have Middlestadt player his 125 games, because Sabres have no viable options at centre besides Eichel, doesn't make Middlestadt a better long term NHLer than Liljegren.

So you think there is no disappointment in that he has played 11 NHL games 4 years after he was drafted and that in his 4th year he is exclusively an AHL player?

No. His first year that he was drafted he was junior age though he played in the AHL Then he had two years in the AHL interrupted by injury, though I don't think he was NHL ready.
He might have made the Leafs this year but the new taxi squad system and the fact he was AHL eligible, the Leafs decided to have minutes in the AHL. He still might play for the Leafs this season if there is an injury at RHD. But Brodie, Holl and even Bogosian have been good this year. Liljegren has played well for the Marlies this year.
Lots of players drafted in the first round don't get much NHL time till five years after they were drafted. Often two years of junior or college, followed by two years in the AHL.
I'm kinda glad he didn't play for the Leafs when Babcock was coach.. Probably got better coaching with Keefe in the AHL
