Wow, Johansen is poor. Might be one of the worst contracts in the NHL.

I wouldn’t do this. I’d want Ekholm to play with Brannstrom

Honestly, Johansen is having a good season if you forget the fact he's being paid $8m(!). All of his underlying numbers are good, the guy just can't produce anymore. It's a shame because he is playing well, but it just doesn't show up on the score sheet. And while that is fine in some cases, it's not when you're the highest paid forward on the team. I think if he went to another team or got some offensive help other than Forsberg that he could potentially snap out of it, but that's a big gamble for any team to take on and it doesn't look like NSH is going to be drawing in any offensive talent really anytime soon... I think NSH is stuck with him, for better or worse.

I like Ekholm a lot, but he only has one year after this, and will be expensive and difficult to re-sign. Johansen is straight up not as good as Colin White, and his Contract is atrocious. Ottawa shouldn't hamstring themselves like this for the sake of experience.

I think White is a tweener good 3rd line center below average 2nd line center...not sure about when he plays on the wing. Johansen is not what he was but still a good 2nd line center that might be a 1b with a new team. Worth the risk.

1 year of ekholm is tough but i think he would be a good mentor to the Sens. Ottawa can always get the value back by trading him at the deadline next year when Sanderson is ready to step up to top 4

8mil for "still a good 2C" doesn't cut it, especially for a team like the Sens.

Yes, but a good deal for 1b and the other way I look at it is that he is worth 3m more than White. Not sure but when you add Ekholm, it has to be pretty close.

Idk I don't have as much faith in a bounce back. I'd take White at 4.75 instead every time. Add in the Sens giving up Brannstrom for Ekholm who could easily be a one and done, I really don't think it makes sense for Ottawa. Sens lose a lot of Salary flexibility, and i don't think they improve very much long term.
