yeah I hate to break it to you, but even if this team was totally healthy it isn't "going anywhere"
This was a flawed team from the beginning.
It has had no 3rd line all year.
Fact of the matter is, if the injuries are longer term, there is no one they can bring in that is going to "fix" the team.
You don't replace a Malkin.
But most likely these guys miss a couple of games and then come back. Their being on IR is only a cap move or roster spot move.
So keep your garbage panic logic.
Hell the team went with 2 defensemen at one point this year and didn't make a trade or any significant move. They sure as hell aren't going to panic now.
I don't know how to put this any other way than if the team is healthy, they can absolutely go on a cup run
This team is 2 3rd liners away from being a well constructed team. Staal and Iafallo can be those players
Nobody is trying to replace Malkin. Nobody with more than 2 brain cells thinks Malkin is replaceable. It's called getting someone like Staal to be the 2C while he's out.
"Panic logic" lmao ok dumbf*ck you're the one here that thinks playing Lafferty, Jankowski, Gaudreau, and Rodrigues at the same time is perfectly fine. You're not using any logic at all here.
Yea the team didn't make any trades for d-men because most of the injuries weren't long term and the defense was good to begin with, that isn't the case with the bottom 6 and it certainly isn't the case now with having 2 4th liners and a 3rd liner making up the 2nd line and a bunch of AHL scrubs and ZAR in the bottom 6.
There is no other choice than to try to improve the team as much as possible at this point and all the injuries magnify that.
