Can't see Lou giving up our future goalie and a prospect who has shown some promise as of late for Nylander. The Islanders also don't have the cap space for Nylanders 7 mill AAV cap hit.

I would bet lou considers sorokin untouchable. He probably thinks or sorokin as his next brodeur.

I mean, great value for NYI so I'd do it, but we can't afford it.

This is next season. Lots will change so don’t base it completely on the current cap situation.

Yes I know, but that’s not even what I meant. Players will move.

Maybe, but purely value wise, I would definitely make that trade for what Nylander is right now, compared to what Sorokin could possibly be.

But as several people already pointed out, it doesn’t make sense on a couple of different levels anyways.

As a swede I was reeally high on Nylander that draft and was praying for us to take him at 5. As it turned out, we got Dal Colle instead, yay!

Value wise I would do it especially with Varlamov playing at a vezina level. I’m confident sorokin will eventually be a top 5 G, but this is trading from a strength and I like skareks long term potential (plus we have Mitch korn) .

off topic but im curious what you think NYI's protection list would look like. Does this look reasonable:

Lee
Barzal
Nelson
Eberle
Pageau
Beauvillier
Bellows

Pulock
Pelech
Leddy

Varlamov

which leaves Bailey and Mayfield unprotected

I think they go with Bailey protected. Lou and Trotz loves him.

Maybe mayfield over Leddy, although Leddy is the better player.

Agree on all you said. Henrik Tikkanen is also pretty intriguing, simply because he’s not JUST big. Moves really great and have had an really good development curve over the last couple of weeks/months. Finland has one of the best goalie programs in the world, hope he continues to take big strides as in being a regular guy in Liiga next year. Goalies is always the biggest lottery in evaluation of talent, that’s why I almost always think that you only should draft goalies late. Hated Preds Askarov pick last draft, to big of a gamble in my opinion. Don’t even want to mention DiPietro 1#.

He’ll also be 32 and they need to clear cap. They might even have to add sweeteners for Seattle to take bailey

Yeah I would never pick a G in the 1st round. Preds should have taken Jarvis or lundell

Is it possible ? Yes, but any competent organization would protect an asset who still has top 6 upside over an overpaid 32 year old winger with negative value.

I am no fan of Bailey, but Trotz and Lou love their veterans.

I’d like to think Lou values good asset management to a certain extent. I guess we’ll see
