NJD TDL In depth

Created by: Maxmax2005
Team: 2020-21 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 18, 2021
Published: Mar. 18, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
NJD
  1. Bellows, Kieffer
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
With the devils retaining ,Palmieri’s value is going to be a little higher.
NYI
  1. Palmieri, Kyle ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
After 4 straight 25 goal seasons Palmeiri has a decent amount of value, even though he has slowed down this year. With the news about Lee im sure the islanders will be looking to add a top 6 winger,. In my opinion this is the perfect fit.
2.
NJD
  1. Brook, Josh
  2. Byron, Paul
  3. Gorniak, Jack [Reserve List]
  4. Hillis, Cameron
  5. 2021 2nd round pick (TBL)
  6. 2021 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
With NJ taking on byron’s contract this package will cost alot more than just butcher alone. Here is a breakdown

Butcher for Hillis+2nd
Byron- Brook+Gorniak+2nd
MTL
  1. Butcher, Will
Additional Details:
With a plethora of LD, New Jersey can afford to unload a puck moving LD (MTL’s n1 need)
3.
NJD
  1. Eriksson, Loui
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (VAN)
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (VAN)
VAN
  1. Street, Ben
Additional Details:
With NJ having lots of Cap Space they can afford to take on a bad contract, Some of you may think that this is a bad trade for the devils becuase it should take more to unload Eriksson’s contract BUT the canucks can buy out Ericksson’s contract this summer and it will only cost them 2M against the cap for the next 2 years, so basically this trade saves VAN 2M in cap for the next 2 years. Which is important as they have a cap crunch coming with Petterson, Hughes and Demko needing BIG raises.
4.
NJD
  1. Niku, Sami
  2. Perreault, Mathieu
  3. 2021 3rd round pick (WPG)
WPG
  1. Murray, Ryan
Additional Details:
With Winnipeg in need of a stay at home D-Man i believe Murray is a great fit, he is better than the price WPG would be paying (If he stays healthy)
5.
NJD
  1. Kase, Ondrej
  2. Senyshyn, Zach
  3. 2021 1st round pick (BOS)
BOS
  1. Wood, Miles
Additional Details:
In DESPERATE need of secondary scoring, the bruins pay a hefty price for a guy outperforming his contract, i compare this deal to the coleman one from last year’s TDL, who knows if Kase will come back to form or if he will come back at all.

Nobody is giving a 1st+ for Miles Wood. Forget that. And he isn't solving the "DESPERATE need of secondary scoring".

How is he not solving the desperate scoring need?

A) Blake coleman had two 20 back to back goal seasons. Wood has None.
B) it was an overpay
C) The Bruins traded Seguin for nothing, I assume you would be ok with Trading Hirschier or HIghes for say Debrusk, Clifton and a Kulman.
D) Trading for guys have their career year who will likely never repeat is not a good way to build a team ( see matt Belesky)

Cause he isn't very good, and he isn't very good at scoring goals consistently. I am happy for you he has had a good two months, but I will take the entirety of his almost 300 game career

Including this season he is averaging 15.89 goals per 82gp.

That is not secondary scoring. He isn't a kid coming into his own. He has played as I said 300 NHL games.

He hasn't been consistent player but this year he looks like a completely changed player.

The Jets might have a little interest in Murray, but not at that price. The 3rd on it's own would be more than enough.

Blake Coleman was a top5 defensive forward in the NHL last season. He was also a great two-way player and he was worth that package. Maybe slight overpay but prices go up at TDL+many teams were probably on him. It's not even close.

Wood is a 4th liner and Bruins' issue is not (only) personal related so I doubt he keeps scoring in Boston.

That's what I'm thinking, toss in a 5th if retention is needed.

Before I trade what is essentially 3 1sts for him, I need to know he will repeat.

Senyshyn was a 1st.
Kase was traded for a 1st last year.
the actual 1st.

Senyshyn and Kase don't equate to 1st round picks. Senyshyn was a disappointing first-round pick and his value is not close to that. Kase looked promising but he has a ton of injury concern. The only thing appealing to the Devils in that trade is the actual 1st round.

As for Senyshyn - I bet a lot of people would have said the same thing about Zboril not too long ago. No, he doesn't have 1st round value, but the Bruins have invested in him and they like him. He was an A in Providence and earned a shot, played well and got hurt. Kid works hard & has Elite + Speed.

Kase - Yeah, I just don't think the optics of it are good at all. There is no reason to move him. I mean, if he's the piece that lands them Forsberg - by all means. But not for Wood.

Something about Wood's season screams Dave Clarkson. I'm all set.

I mean, I'd take him, he's a good player, just not for that.
