Showcasing Blackwell On Top 6 For TDL Trade

Created by: AJC13
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 6, 2021
Published: Apr. 6, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Are the Rangers looking to trade Blackwell at the TDL? If not traded, I believe he’ll be taken by Seattle in the Expansion Draft. If not Blackwell then who? Howden? Kinkaid? Deangelo? Rooney? Signed for the rest of this season and next season, I would think he’s the best option for Seattle.

Blackwell has 9 goals in 28 games, which has him on pace for 27 goals in 84 games. He could play centre or wing and play on the top 6 or bottom 6. I would think that a team in the East that’s played against him all season would more appreciate his talents.

Seems like the perfect depth guy for the playoffs. Can play all three forward positions and can produce on any of the four lines. And he won’t cost too much. I believe the Rangers could get at least a 3rd and a 4th in trade. Maybe two 3rd’s or a 2nd if there’s lots of interest and teams start bidding against one another.

You'll get one third at best. Guy has barely played 60 NHL games.

Blackwell is playing great right now and on a cheap deal, but let's be real -- he's not going to return two 3rds.

If you trade him now, if you truly believe he’s getting taken in expansion, then who does Seattle take then?

Howden or Kinkaid. Maybe Deangelo, but the probably not.

Well if that’s the case then I guess you have to trade Blackwell to recover assets. Wonder what it would take to entice Seattle to take Tone-Def-Angelo?

Rangers buy Deangelo out cheep... A little over $300,000 for year one and a little over $800,000 year two.

Ok, but what if you offered them Blackwell or Howden as comp to take Tony D for no money? It wouldn’t be the weirdest thing that Francis thinks he can make something out of TD. Plus they do have a salary floor they need to hit.

IS is exempt and you’re protecting AG over Kinkiad for sure.

I believe the Rangers would much rather have the picks and buy out Tony D. Actually they’d probably rather keep Blackwell than get the picks, but would probably lose him in the Expansion Draft. But you never know, might be worth taking the chance of losing Blackwell without compensation for the chance to keep him.

My boy PDG is only a few games away from needing to be protected as well. Francis drafted him while with the Canes, so you never know.

The only thing that is for sure - if you trade someone you ensure you lose him.

Unless PDG gets resigned before the Expansion Draft, he’s a UFA July 1st.

You'll get one third at best. Guy has barely played 60 NHL games.

Blackwell is playing great right now and on a cheap deal, but let's be real -- he's not going to return two 3rds.

I’m certainly not saying any of you are wrong... Just pointing out that Blackwell is on fire! Has 6 goals in the last 7 games and has for the season, 12 goals in 31 games.

Because Blackwell is also signed for next season at basically the league minimum, Rangers might not accept less than a 2nd round pick for him.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Rangers instead don’t trade Blackwell and expose Georgiev in the Expansion Draft rather than Kinkaid in an attempt to lure Seattle into taking Georgiev and not Blackwell.

IS is exempt and you’re protecting AG over Kinkiad for sure.
