Fox has 36 pts in 37 games and he's +13. That's the two main criteria for the voters, he'll obviously have enough consideration by the end of the season.

He is also really good defensively, he isn't very big but his hockey IQ is insane and he can read plays better than anyone I've ever see

Its honestly so sad that they really are the criteria that is used for best defenseman in the league. Why not make a separate trophy focused on Offensive output for defensemen.

I know he's an elite two-way D. Voters will use his +/- and his time on ice to justify it.

Agreed but to be honest, they would still get it wrong especially the second award/trophy (all-around D or defensive D whatever it is).

He definitely will be on ballots. Hedman, McAvoy, Nurse, Fox, Ekblad was definitely there as well. Could be missing a couple

It's impossible to say that there are 180 voting members PHWA (Professional Hockey Writers Association) and each one could have different criteria. With the emergence of advanced analytics +/- doesn't play as big of a role as it used to. +/- by it self really doesn't tell you much at all. You can have really good defenseman on a bad team and his +/- is awful but a mediocre or bad defenseman on a really good team and he could have a good +/-. Just like the advanced stats you don't get a clear picture with just one stat.

What makes you think Fox isn't getting enough consideration?

100% agreed but that's not a concept they seem to understand since they keep using it.

You are right there but the advanced stats have been around since what 2014 or so. We can only hope that more of the voters are using are starting to factor them in to their decisions or at least using +/- relative terms comparing it to NYRs goal differential. Just like they do with the advanced stats comparing them to the teams numbers in each category. I don't know how they choose the 180 voting members but I think it is probably a position that come with seniority so there are probably some voters that simply won't vote for a younger player because he hasn't put in his dues yet so to say.
