Team Explanation
Here me out....

Hamonic:
He has limited himself to playing for only western Canadian teams because of family reasons. Essentially this means that the Canucks have leverage to extend him.

Holtby:
Ullmark has been one of the few bright spots for the Sabres this year and he may have lots of potential suiters in UFA. Holtby only has one year left and would at least provide them with a veteran in the crease. Canucks retain to make it look more appealing.

Edler:
He doesn't want to play anywhere else so I think he'd be willing to take a cheap deal for a year.

Lowry:
Is a dynamic player that can help the team with secondary scoring and is due for a contract similar to what Pearson got.

Sanford/Virtanen:
Jake desperately needs a change of scenery. The Blues may not be able to protect Sanford in expansion so the Canucks can take advantage of this and try and acquire him for cheap.

Roussel:
Has the connection with MTL with Burrows etc. Canucks retain half of the cap hit to make it more appealing. Standard cap dump.

Sutter:
He has shown his usefulness in a PK and depth role this year. Because he has been here for 5 seasons now he and his family are well connected and settled here so wouldn't be surprised if he stays.

Halak:
Probably one of the better 1Bs in the league. Can provide security with Demko for a year while DiPietro continues to develop.

Your team isn't good man. There's no way in hell Ullmark is staying. If he's playing that well infront of this laughable team, just imagine how good he'd play somewhere else. Not saying they would do the trade but do you honestly believe any decent player in their right mind would sign in Buffalo especially a goalie?

We can’t afford Roussel, nor do we want him.

Besides Halak and Lowry as new additions , you really have the same guys that can't make the playoffs now. Maybe it's time to move on.
I'm sure the Jets have enough cap for Lowry. Canucks would likely have to pay a premium for him as Lowry seems entrenched in Winnipeg.

The Blues aren't interested in that.
