Time to start spending

Created by: CalvinKlein
Team: 2021-22 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 19, 2021
Published: Apr. 20, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm done with the concept of "just let the kids play". The devils have some talented young players, but they need help. They have a ton of cap space and I think they should to start spending money to acquire proven veteran players. As in top 4 D; top 6 F type players, not guys that fill out the roster.

Also: I have no idea if the Flames are going into a rebuild, so I'm not sure if Lindholm is even available, I just want the Devils to target a player like him.

Boqvist is a borderline bust and that 1st is quite late. Flames wouldnt even move Lindholm for Holtz + Mercer

If you want a veteran Top 6 forward at a reasonable price, Palat and Killorn are both options to be had.

That pkg for Gaudreau works. Remove the third round pick and get it done.

best thing NJ can do is keep tanking. They aren't a contender. Teams like PIT and WSH are fast aging out. In a year or two this team should try to emerge.

That doesn’t even come remotely close to getting gaudreau, it’s extremely far off

Lindholm is an ambitious ask.
Mercer + Holtz is equally ambitious counter.

I mean Lindholm was a 5th overall pick and has definitely lived up to that skill wise. On top of that he is locked up long term for less than 5M. His value is definitely higher than Holtz

Sure. But both guys?
Wouldn’t make sense for rebuilding club like NJD at all.

Spending for the sake of spending is stupid. Spending with a purpose is smart. I think Hamilton very much fills an area of need and so does JVR to an extent (especially since his trade value is so low). So I'd be happy to spend for those players.

I really don’t get why Flames fans think that JG has huge huge value. He does put up points but he’s a perimeter player. I think he might last until TDL 2022 and he might fetch a first round pick. NJ is a decent spot for him to land.

I expect at least what Patches got if trading Gaudreau. Anything less massive L

Likely not happening if only because of the flat cap situation. Pacioretty also signed an extension. That pkg included second round pick, Suzuki and Tatar. Great return for the Habs. Most GMs will be reluctant to pay that much right now. They are all looking to shed money if anything and are looking to enjoy cheaper ELC players.

I’ll be impressed if they get anything close to that. I’d say a late first round pick, roster player for money reasons and a B level prospect. Not even sure who the suiters would be, besides NJ.

Did you also think Bennett was only getting a 5th?

No. I never wrote that. I do t believe so anyway. I thought he’d garner a late first plus whatever else.

Ill take your word for that. I just dpnt see any situation for there isn't a bidding war for Gaudreau at the deadline if Flames are selling
