I have no respect for hockey played that long ago. You might as well be telling me how James Norris was the best of all time. I just do not care.

Pretty arrogant comment tbh. Extremely narrow minded and short sighted. If you cant respect the greats, then maybe hockey isn’t for you?

Nah I just don't live in the past. Way harder to be the Best D in the world when Lidstrom was playing vs Orr. The standard of quality in the sport has improved so vastly its barely the same sport. Bobby was the best in his era, but Lidstrom is the greatest of all time.

It’s clear cut Lemieux and Orr for the first two. Absolutely no debate. I seriously can’t believe some people said Lidstrom lol. Guess these millennials should brush up on their hockey history...

The last one is a lot tougher. I’d probably say Hasak, but you can argue either.

The thing about Orr vs Lidstrom is that Orr changed the game. He was playing in a time where defenders just didnt do what he did. He was really good at it and would still be great but hockey is very very different now, defenders skate and rush and dangle all the time. Lidstrom basically perfected defensive hockey and still put up very good offensive numbers during the clutch and grab era.
I guess these boomers should brush up on their player research

coming from someone who took a jab at an entire generation because they cant comprehend how hockey has changed throughout the years, this is pretty darned funny

I mean that can be said for any of the players currently playing. Athletes now are stronger, faster, have better training, diets, etc. What Orr was able to accomplish in his prime was insanity. You can’t compare two players from different eras like it’s apples to apples. It’s just not fair. But in terms of level of impact / dominance, Orr easily surpasses Lidstrom. Orr changed the game. He reinvented the position.

yeah, I mean, I can totally just look at the numbers that show that Hasek was so far above every single other goaltender in his era, a gap that doesnt exist for any other goalie playing in any era. An era that included Brodeur (and Roy) and use that info. Or I can use all the knowledge I gained watching these goaltenders play and use that either by itself or combine it with the actual numbers and they can show the same thing.
Or i can just use cupzzzzzz and pretend that makes one player the best ever over the other guy.

I'm pretty confident I know what im talking about, but I'd love to hear why you think the Goalie who you clearly have no biases for is better.

Brodeur 2.24 career GAA
Hasek 2.20 career GAA

And so for years, Brodeur-haters claim Hasek > Broduer. Lol.

How about 800+ career wins, 3 cups, 5 Jennings, 4 Vezina, 1 Calder and 7x in top-5 for Hart trophy....and owning almost every record in the book?

For a 5-6 window, Hasek was better than Brodeur (1994-1999). But Brodeur peaked later. And at his peak, Brodeur was better.

Lemieux. Don't think people realized how good Lemieux was and how if not for his ailments he may of been considered the GOAT.
Orr. 915 points for a guy whose career was cut short.
Hasek. I think he's a half-tier above Brodeur in terms of ability.

GAA? You might as well use +/-. There more meaningless stats than that one, but there arnt many (hint, wins is another)
Oh, you want trophys? how about 6 Vezias, 3 Jennings, 2 harts, 2 pearsons and 2 cups all while playing for the Buffalo sabres for most of his career?
And no, Brodeur didnt peak later, he just played longer. Hasek didnt even make the NHL full time until he was 26.
