Why would Buffalo do this? They certainly aren’t in any position to win anytime soon.

1) He won't waive (already stated)
2) BUF is not ready to compete anytime soon (already stated)
3) The return is not nearly enough even though TB is in cap trouble
4) BUF needs to get competent depth before they before they make a move like this (see Taylor Hall signing - didn't help in the least)
5) Stammer has proven to be fairly injury prone over the past couple seasons. Not a guy I would take a chance on in BUF.

BUF should:
1) Shore up the D (Dumba would be a good fit, along with a big tough penalty killing 5/6)
2) Send Okposo to Robidas Island
3) Resign Reinhart and Middlestat
4) Trade Eichel for a boatload of young talent and picks
5) Find a coach that knows how to bring along young players and understands his players strengths and weaknesses
I'm sure there are 5 more things they can do too......

I like it, if eichel was for sure staying for rest of contract, seems fair. And sabres were competitive
