Wish List

Created by: EvanW
Team: 2021-22 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: May 4, 2021
Published: May 4, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assume ~$7MM is needed to resign Robertson, Klingberg, and Oettinger. Current space with Radulov expiring creates this. Pray that the cap is only flat for a couple of seasons, there is a compliance buyout ($9MM), and / or that Damiani, Mascherin, Bourque, Stranges, or L'Esperance can fill Hall and Radulov's spots. Yikes.
Hall takes bridge to restore value and play with similar Seguin.
LTIR guys are options if Damiani is not ready.

NYR
  1. Pavelski, Joe
Additional Details:
NY needs a center that can win a face off, and some veteran scoring. Pavelski is that guy and comes off the books after one season.

  1. Laine, Patrik [RFA Rights]
CBJ
  1. Gurianov, Denis
  2. Lindell, Esa
Additional Details:
Lindell is my least favorite player on the team. Despite advanced metrics and TOI, he is who he is which is a player that fails to clear the puck twice on a PK last week against TBL. If he is not gone before NMC kicks in, team will waste the current youth and be set back ~5 years.

Additional Details:
Dickinson is the expansion pick. Send some lesser prospects and pick to SEA for them to take remaining years of Khudobin as well.

I imagine Pavs gets more. I would wait for a decision from Bishop before moving Dobby, his injury history could make him think about retirement.

I do too, but I find it easier to undervalue to make a point as opposed to get people that do not agree and get hung up on value. This scenario is assuming Bishop is fine, my next year "wish list."

I’d take that in a heart, if you made a 2nd and 4th I’d take it without a question

Not trading Laine without getting a top-6 C back. In particular, we're more than set at LD, so Lindell is not of all that high interest.

Rangers decline unless you're going to retain 50%. I think they'll take their chances with guys like Henrique (50% retained) or Brandon Sutter as far as the faceoff dot goes.

I wouldn’t swap Guri for Laine one for one. Guri is cheaper and isn’t useless without the puck

And Pavs is a ppg player with no term remaining. I’d imagine he’s worth quite a bit more than that. Especially since if we’re trading guys like him retaining wouldn’t be an issue which just makes him even more appealing

Yeah just assuming Tortorella stays, Laine makes it known he's done, and Jones is gone when his contract runs up. Obviously a wishlist from the outside looking in, but not a terrible return for Laine if that happens. Lindell fits the system and can play the other side if need be.

I wouldn't either because there is no way to make that $ work. Still think a true goal scorer is needed, and Laine>>>Gurianov. I think Laine would fit in well here, and whatever slack Laine brings could be absorbed. Yeah, see above. I undervalued just to make a point about the deal. Retaining some $ and getting more return would be the likely scenario.

That’s fair but I guess I just disagree on the Stars “needing a true goal scorer”. We have some very nice offensive players. I honestly think letting Bones concentrate on the defense and getting a proper head coach would be a step in the right direction. Moving on from guys like Cogliano and Comeau would be a step in the right direction. So on. I’d rather focus on replacing those vets with younger more talented players. So yes Laine might be a better offensive weapon but how much do you lose at the other end on defense when he’s playing with the controller disconnected? Unless they’ve changed it recently, the wall says “everybody ropes, everybody rides”. And Laine isn’t one of those players. So I’d rather keep Guri who I know fits the system and add another quality player like Armia or Coleman. See if we can get a third line going. Call me old school but I don’t think a system should support a player and skilled players shouldn’t be exempt from defensive responsibility. Even a strong defensive system like the Stars’ can’t always cover for totally blown coverage
