I love Nico, but I don't think he's much higher than where I have him *yet*

Should actually probably be above Rakell, but I can't put him much higher than that *yet*

Kane is the best forward on the hawks and Debrincat should be a lot higher on this list especially over Tatar, Bjorkstrand, Gaudreau , and Vrána

My man Carter Verhaeghe robbed...

So is Hertl. Vrana too high - for example Mantha is way better than him. No one will ever agree, but Svechnikov is the Canes best forward by a mile. Same for Eberle, but that will get even more heated probably. I'd move Panarin down. I'd put JEE on there and move him up a handful of spots. I'd move Eichel up to about Couturier - he's finally better than ROR. I actually think we're back to Bergeron for the Bruins - his defensive impact is still crazy, and he's gotten so good on the PP. Jesper Bratt robbed as well :/

Also there's no way Norris isn't the lowest on here, I don't know what these comments are.

So you're saying Verhaeghe is better than Barkov...?

If one player starts in the offensive zone 80% of the time, and another player like 40% - what do you think their expected point totals should be? the same? And what do you think their corsi's should be?

By looking at isolated impacts.

But if you believe math is voodoo, I'd recommend watching the next Panthers game, and instead of viewing it through the lens of "Barkov is this team's best player" apply "Carter Verhaeghe..." and you'll literally see it.

Apologies if this comes off as rude, but this is the worst attempt of defending a (very hot) take I have, maybe, ever seen.

Kopitar over Tatar, Gaudreau, and Pavelski. Barkov over O'Reilly and Couturier.

I guarantee you that I have watched many more Panthers games than you have, and this is pretty funny to me to hear this
Barkov has been our best player for at least 3 years, and that won't change any time soon
Carts is a great player in his own right, but the numbers speak for themselves
Barkov is one of the best players in the world and some silly magic analytics can't change that

Well it's a hot take cause people just assume the players who play the most and get the highest point totals are the best, unless there is some narrative (like in Barkov's case) that they're defensively good, regardless of which they are or not. So my first point was isolated shot impacts - how a player impacts shots taken, and the quality of them in both directions (and on top of that you probably want to look at shooter effects). Verhaeghe is one of the best handful of players in the league at that, and was really damn good last year as well. But you don't hear his name very often, so when I suggest he's better than household names you'll toss out what we typically consider sound methodology for some arbitrary evaluation all sports fall victim for, for some reason.

What's so funny is you think math is silly magic, but your biased brain processing what your eyes see isn't. Verhaeghe is one of a handful top players in the world, Barkov is really, really good.
