Blow it up or not

Created by: Duggysdanglers

Initial Creation Date: May 24, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I’m not sure I’d blow it up. They had a horrible playoff but do they have to throw out everything. I’d tinker and stick with their group until all of their major contracts expire: Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Oshie etc. Inject some of their young bucks into the lineup. Need to bridge the gap to the next ones.
They had an off year but do you trade Kuznetsov because of his lack of Covid compliance? And who will want him? I’d give it another year and then consider things.

Trading Vrana was a huge mistake. They were the slowest team in the playoffs.

Mantha is better. Wasn't a speed thing, it was an injury thing.

People keep forgetting that the Capitals were very very injured to their top guy. Ovi, Backy, Oshie, Carly limped into the playoffs. Eller ended up getting hurt and we lost game 2 because of it. Kuz missed 2 weeks with Covid and missed the first 2 games. If Caps were anywhere near good health they win the series or at least push it farther. Long way of saying they don't need to blow it. They should make changes but no need to blow it, and they never will as long as Ovi is here.

So I'll tell you right now, they are taking Vanecek. It's no debate.

Nah there are better goaltenders to take than him. Not to mention, Washington will be offering some of the best defence options to Seattle.

What G’s would they take elsewhere? Buddy could be right about Vanacek.
What D will be exposed by the Caps? I’m not sure who they would protect after Orlov and Carlson.

This is why I’d have another go at it next year then see what happens. There’s no way to move some of those contracts without sweeteners.

Yeah I agree, I think all these people who say they have to trade the whole team away and rebuild are wrong. The only thing I think might be beneficial is trading kusnetsov just because he is a team cancer, not necessarily in the locker room, but he screws the team a lot.

Kuemper/Hill from Arizona
Allen from Montreal
Talbot from Minnesota
possibly Khudobin from Dallas

My guess is they protect Schultz with Carlson and Orlov. That exposes Dillon and Jensen

Idk if I trust him enough though. He faded like Kevin Lankinen and Kaapo Kahkonen in my opinion

Yeah but I have Vanecek going to Seattle where Adin Hill and Chris Driedger also will be, so he still has time to devleop

Is Vanecek still waiver eligible? If he isn’t then he won’t be with a franchise who already has Hill and Driedger

I’d still select him in the XD and trade him at the Entry Draft for another pick.

You could still do that, but as I said earlier I don't think the Kraken are going to see too many other teams offering as much talent on defence as the Capitals

I think they’ll do the same with a D as well. Vegas selected Marc Methot and then flipped him for a second round pick.
