I bet Kuznetsov stays

Description
I bet the Caps run it back with some slight infusion of youth into the roster. At this point, the Caps aren't going to get a fair value return on Kuznetsov, so you might as well try to get him to turn it around in DC.

Taxi squad probably isn't a thing next season (I hope), so I'm using it more as prospects who are likely to get some playing time next season. Fehervary is going to be a full-time NHL player next season per GMBM. He doesn't want to rush McMichael, so I think he'll get a couple games and continue to develop in Hershey. Alexeyev will get a few games too. GMBM also wants to see more out of Pilon.

I think the fourth line could be experimented with, but you'll have to pry Hagelin-Dowd-Hathaway out of Lavy's cold, dead hands.

Additional Details:
Leason and a 3rd as a sweetener for SEA to take Schultz. TvR can slot in the regular lineup and likely add more value defensively (Schultz has unreal offensive production rates, but just doesn't make sense for this team at this point)

That's fine. I'm sure the Caps could find a taker for Schultz anyways.

I think the Caps are tired of his off ice BS. Why not move on from him even if you slightly lose the trade?

The team will be worse without him and there's not a player on this team that can fill his role. Eller is a high-tier 3C, but he's not a sustainable option as a 2C for an entire season. McMichael isn't ready for 2C duties either. I don't think GMBM will trade Kuznetsov unless it makes sense.

Kuznetsov still produced at a .70 ppg pace this season, so it's not like he turned into a pumpkin overnight. That's also with games where he struggled after coming back from COVID. The Caps best chance at contending again is getting Kuznetsov back on track, because he's a top 15-20 center in the league when he's on his game.

That lineup is basically the same as this year aside from Fehervary at 3LD.

I'm sure more things will happen, but Sprong is expected to get a more expanded role per The Athletic. Schultz is out for TvR. Depending on McM's performance in camp, he could make the roster. Also, Orlov and Jensen as the first pairing should be really good based on their performance while on the ice together this season:

115:04 in TOI / 56.92 CF% / 58.23 FF% / 62.86 SF% / 78.57 GF% / 63.10 xGF%

Yeah but Carlson and Dillon I suspect will be awful together.

They weren't awful together (49.44 CF%, 49.12 FF%, 51.06 GF%, 49.34 xGF%), but I'd consider putting Fehervary with Carlson if he's ready for top four minutes. Dillon and TvR were pretty good together FWIW.

I mean the Caps were good in the regular season, but I'm seeing a more systemic problem underlying the entire team when the minutes really matter most. OT/3v3/Playoffs. They just don't seem to be able to compete in those situations very well anymore.

Early game period 1/2 of the regular season? They're good. And that gets them into the playoffs, but that's all they can do now.

Yeah, I think a big piece of it is having an aging core. They're not going to recover or play through injuries as well anymore, and that was pretty clear this post-season. Team's pretty slow now too, which is tough to watch. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a bit more speed injected into the lineup as a result.
