Description
I am keeping the core, and bringing home the Buffalo boys. This team now has a balance of elite raw skill (Jack), grit (Cozens, Marcus, Nick) and hometown pride (Woods, Foligno x2).

Oh, yeah... I addressed the goaltender position too. Best FA out there. And yes, we are rolling with UPL moving forward.

At the time of that MN/BUF trade a gew years ago I wanted Girgensons instead of Foligno.

I love Foligno but you must be on drugs if you think he's worth 6.5M today

Reinhart has made it quite clear he's going to arbitration for a 1 year deal unless traded

Can you show me where he said this? I’d like to see it.

did he specifically say it no. He did heavily imply it though by his statements at the end of season interview.

There is no chance he signs long term though since Buffalo isn't going to be climbing into contention next year in a division of Tampa, Toronto, Boston, and Florida

If he does elect for arbitration he is not eligible for offer sheets. I am also curious what it takes for the arbiter to award a two year deal since it is perfectly within his power to do that, but you rarely ever see it. For that matter I have never seen an arbitrator give out the two-year option.

AFAIK if the player goes to an arbitrator they they are essentially given 2 options, the player can then choose between the having the higher pay and 2 years or term or the lower pay and 1 year of term. For example I believe Mikheyev recently went to Arb and went with the higher paying deal but got 2 years

The information I was able to find may not be up-to-date, but it says the party which does not elect the arbitration is the one who gets to choose whether we are using a one year or two year deal. The exception is in cases where the player is in the final year of RFA status, which Reinhart is. This makes me wonder why the Sabres weren’t smart enough to just to elect a two-year deal in arbitration last year. Of course he signed a one-year contract before the arbitration hearing ever happened.

The deal never went to an arbiter last year, you can only do that once

If memory serves me properly Reinhart was the one electing arbitration last year, which would’ve given the Sabres the option to choose the term of the deal. But the arbitration never happened because Reinhart signed a one year contract before the hearing.

every RFA elects to go to arbitration if a deal is made before the arbitrator meeting then they still have their arbitration rights if they are still RFA at the end of their next contract

Some RFAs sign their qualifying offers, not everyone elects for arbitration. I’m not sure if we have a misunderstanding between us, or if there’s some disconnect here. I think we’re on the same page.

well yeah if you sign before free agency then there is no reason to file for arbitration, also you cant file for arbitration if you are coming off your ELC

Also we are on the same page
