leaf fans: jeez, marner must go. the experiment has failed, we cannot have 3 guys making 40% of the cap. Depth wins you cups, not overpaid inconsistent stars.
also leaf fans: let's trade for jack eichel
that aside, i fully agree with everyone else listed here, it's a good list

As a Leafs fan who is all for a Marner for Eichel deal, the issue is when your $11M player doesnt show up. Imo a happy, healthy Eichel is way more effective than Marner offensively cause he can shoot and pass. Can't even imagine a line with Eichel and Matthews together, it would be absolutely deadly

why so cheap i havent really followed his injury history
3 shoulder surgeries. He very well return to form with a full offseason where he isn't rehabbing his shoulder and can work on other things. It is a bit of a toss up. There is rumors of him being left unprotected. If he returns to form, in Toronto's system he could be a 40-50 goal scorer, however I don't see it happening. Looking like he could be a 25 goal scorer though. He is an underrated passer and is a massive unit. He could go into a more power forward role and be successful too
Then you get 2 of the big contract guys to go on LTIR for the season and miraculously they get heathy for game 1 of the playoffs and you really got something

what would be? how many teams can offer a player of marners caliber
Would rather have multiple high end prospects than what we know we will get from Marner, hes not going to have anyone like Matthews as well so we can expect his assist totals to drop off and Toronto has to significantly over pay as they are our geographical rival and thats all the Sabres really have

i disagree with that mentality tbh, you get the best player available regardless of rivalries/division pedigree

Quoting: bhuntlol
eichel is a wayyy better player than marner
i agree eichel is way better, but having 3 10+ million centres seems so excessive, it's not the NBA lmao
We had JT go down and our next guy up was alex kerfoot. The team was so strapped for depth that we had all these cheap vets and fringe players bc of the cap allocation
It's a huge gamble running with such a concentrated cap setup and so far it hasn't paid off for the leafs

Alex Kerfoot stepped up in a massive way though, also one of those players would swap to the wing 100%, and if thr JT situation happens again you are able to put one of them back to centre. seems like a plus plus plus to me
