it really doesn't make any sense to do it this year. The signing bonus in 2 years makes the cap hit almost 9 mil anyways. Might as well just ride it out for 2 years then if he still hasn't gotten any better then buy him out but you won't be able to sign anyone past 1 year since you'll have a 9 mil cap hit the next year

They need his cap to reach the floor. So his cap hit isn’t a problem. And he isn’t a liability on the ice either so it’s not ideal, but it’s not a huge problem right now.

We’d definitely buy him out before we’d pay to get rid of him

Reaching the cap floor is the easiest thing in the world to do though and it's moreso about the value disparity between his cap hit and performance
